Press Reviews

Venue, October 2010
"One-bedroom contemporary apartments in historic Carcassonne where you will be waited on as if you were le roi et la reine: your hosts collect you from the airport, make you dinner on your first night and provide breakfast every day. The 'extras', including a pre-loaded iPod and a fridge full of wine, make this a couple's finest indulgence."

The Independent, February 2008
"An added incentive to visit Carcassonne comes in the shape of 42 Rue Victor Hugo. This new boutique b&b has got two glamorous suites."

  • “We were made very welcome by Peter and on our first night really enjoyed his delicious cooking matched with local wines - a perfect start to our short break. The apartment was well placed to walk across to the old town or explore the Canal du Midi by boat, foot or cycle.”
    Julie, United Kingdom (21.10.11)

  • “This was a surprising find! Well situated in the town close to the market and safe street or underground parking. Better than being in the walled city (where the walls are so high that there are no or few views) and an easy walk up to the old city. One of the best meals we ate on this trip. Our hospitable host prepared a wonderful dinner with a good local (Minervois) wine which we ate with them. A tour of local wine region was also excellent with a very good lunch.”
    Roger, Australia (03.07.11)

  • “Peter and Deborah were both excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. The apartment has everything you could possibly need and is beautifully decorated. The package we booked meant that everything was taken care of in terms of transfers etc and the breakfasts/ canapes/ dinner were all wonderful. We have every intention of going again.”
    Alison, United Kingdom (24.04.11)

  • “Beautiful room, great food, amazing wine and incredibly hospitable hosts. Loved it. Am already recommending it to my friends and family.”
    Andrew, United Kingdom (14.03.11)

  • “The apartment was beautiful and really nicely furnished. It was in a central location in Carcassonne, which made it a great base for exploring the town. Peter was a great host and his breakfasts were really delicious, with lots of fresh fruit and bread.”
    Jenny, United Kingdom (08.09.10)

  • “A fantastic place to stay. A very cool apartment with great food and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful.
    We will definitely return.”
    Jason, Australia (21.07.10)

  • “The lack of air conditioning in the steamy hot weather was most unpleasant. For this reason we would not stay there again in any summer months.”
    Alison, Australia (25.06.10)

  • “A great find! We loved the beautiful apartment and having a bit more space to relax. Peter's breakfasts were wonderful - as were Peter's dinner recommendations. Good value and a lovely place to stay.”
    Lisa, United Kingdom (09.05.10)

Save to favouritesPrintMail42 Rue Victor HugoWhen was the last time you felt totally spoilt? Exactly. So how appealing is the idea of being met from a flight, driven to an old French townhouse, shown into a stunning suite and relaxing while your hosts serve apéritifs? Then bring canapés. Then serve you dinner, clean up, and leave. Yes, you might get that service in a 5* hotel, but here the entire place is yours and you get the front door key. It’s like borrowing a very stylish flat, and not having to lift a finger while you're there. This is what Peter and Debrah Woodcock offer at 42 rue Victor Hugo, although you can self-cater if you prefer. Their [r:FR056:apartments] are beautiful and private, with all the luxury details you’d want - and then some: a pre-loaded iPod, a fridge full of wine, fresh flowers, 400tc bedlinen. It's an ultra-stylish place to unwind, and a great base to explore historic Carcassonne, with its fairytale walled city of drawbridges, towers and cobbled streets. Come with your partner and spend a romantic long weekend enjoying each other’s company and being thoroughly spoilt.
