Social Responsibility
This includes local recruitment (more than 80% of the staff are local); buying produce from nearby organic farms and growing vegetables in the hotel’s own kitchen garden; buying food unpackaged where hygienic; sponsoring meals in local schools, and inviting schools and orphanages to visit the elephant camp; sending elephants free-of-charge to take part in community and temple events; solar-heating of mahouts’ showers in elephant camp; employment of an elephant vet who spends half her time at the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang, giving free veterinary care to any Thai elephant in need; inviting guests to minimise the hotel’s volume of laundry, eg not changing sheets unless the guest leaves a silk elephant on the bed; solar pre-heating of water for laundry (from 2009); swimming pool heated by heat-pump technology with the by-product cool air used to air-condition the kitchens; Jacuzzi heated by excess heat from cold-store compressors; gardens watered by natural rainfall and with river water.
When to go?
From October to February, when the Golden Triangle enjoys warm, sunny days (average 30ºC). Temperatures can drop to 10ºC at night.
