Aurum
Bangkok, Thailand
Quiet, spotless hotel beside the ever-changing Chao Phraya River, just minutes from the Grand Palace and Wat Po
The Chao Phraya River in Thailand's capital city is teeming with
life: passengers from upmarket hotels being ferried back and forth,
longboats packed with locals, rice barges full of Thai produce.
Watch the sights from this tranquil hotel where 9 of the 12
rooms overlook the water. Upstairs there's a roof
terrace from which you can see the famous golden Wat
Arun (Temple of Dawn). And inside, this converted warehouse
feels more like a European townhouse thanks to its relaxed
atmosphere, friendly staff and smart rooms.
Located in the Old Town (Rattanakosin Island), you're well
set to walk to some of Bangkok's must-sees - the spectacular Grand
Palace, the Pak Klong Talad 24-hour flower market, the National
Museum and Wat Po (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha).

Highs
- Great value considering the riverside location
- Bangkok's main historical sites are within easy walking distance
- Very quiet and clean in a noisy, polluted city
- Immaculate rooms with mod cons, kingsize beds and bathrobes
- Spectacular view of the Wat Arun from the roof terrace. Grab a drink from your minibar and watch the sun set behind it
Lows
- Restaurants and shopping are a taxi ride away, and the Skytrain doesn't stop near here
- Some 'river view' rooms have a restricted view
- There's no form of entertainment in the hotel - even a bar - and the local area is very quiet at night
