Bentota
Why go?
Sri Lanka has over 1,000 miles of beautiful palm-shaded beaches and
warm waters, with most of the main resorts concentrated on the west
and south coast. If you’re planning a beach holiday in this
area, the best time to go is November to April when the weather is
drier and the sea is calm (though watch out for dangerous undertows
on many of the beaches).
The main places of note are Beruwela, Bentota and Hikkaduwa. At one
time, Negombo in the north would have been one of our
recommendations, but nowadays Sri Lanka's best known fishing
village is rather faded and dirty.
