Marketing Manager Sarah has just returned from a sneaky weekend in Paris with her husband. We couldn’t wait to see some pics from her trip, which we hear was full of delicious food, iconic sights, impressionist masterpieces and plenty of ice cream…
The Vélib’ bikes are a fun way to get around and see the city, and there’s a great app that tells you where to find a bike, how many bikes are available at any particular station, and how many slots are free when it’s time to return them.
After a long day cycling around the sights and narrowly avoiding getting mown down on the busy streets, we decided to grab a couple of deckchairs around one of the ponds in the Jardin des Tuileries and scoff pastries in the sunshine.
We lost half a day wandering around the Musée d’Orsay. Housed in a former railway station, it’s packed with thousands of sculptures and paintings, including impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces by the likes of Monet, Renoir, Cézanne and Van Gogh.
It also has fantastic views of the famous Sacré-coeur basilica through its giant transparent clocks.
I call this one ‘Grumpy Men Take a Break at the Musée d’Orsay’.
Time for ice cream! A word of warning: if you see this particular ice-cream seller when you’re in Paris, don’t take his picture. He will shout outrageous obscenities at you.
I think I was a little ice-cream obsessed on this trip. I even started to think the statues were eating them…
…and maybe this chap had a few regrets after a little too much vin rouge?
One of my favourite parts of the trip was taking a bottle of wine and clambering up to the top of Montmartre to enjoy the magnificent cityscape below. Yes, it’s touristy and crowded, but it’s still the most spectacular view in Paris.
And this guy kept us entertained for a while with some impressive keepy-uppies whilst shimmying up a lamppost to the beats of Dr Dre.
We stayed at Hotel de Banville, set in a quiet, leafy avenue in the 17th arrondissement, not far from the Arc de Triomphe. The views from the top-floor suites were absolutely breath-taking.
