Bo Hotel de encanto

Chicoana, Salta, Argentina

Rooms

The 3 rooms in the main house retain their high ceilings, with hints of colonial style in the portraits and the grandeur of the beds, but the elegant windows are double-glazed to minimise noise and the bathrooms are entirely modern.

Bamboo is the smallest at 20sqm, but it has a kingsize bed and a striking black and mustard design. It looks out onto the gallery and Chicoana’s main plaza, as does neighbouring Hibiscus (24sqm). This our favourite in the old house, with a dramatic colour scheme of olive green and raspberry red, and 2 lovely portraits over the bed. Laurel (30sqm) overlooks the internal passageway and the garden. It's bright and airy in mustard yellow and white.

The 4 rooms in the garden are more modern in style and lighter than those in the main house, with contemporary goatskin lamps and traditional weavings. Three of these - Lavender (where we stayed), Oliva and Jazmin - are 30sqm, with a raised mezzanine at the back of the room accommodating a cleverly designed bathroom. Canela is larger (42sqm), with a sitting room with a plasma TV and DVD player, and a marble bathroom. It can be set up as a double or a triple. All have private patios with chairs, so you can sit and look out over the garden and pool.

All rooms have excellent Simmons beds with duck-down duvets and 600-thread count sheets. Ergonomic neck pillows are available on request. You also get armchairs and a coffee table, a luggage rack, a safe box, spacious wardrobes, and air conditioning. Thoughtful touches include a coffee percolator (which also heats water for tea) and fresh milk on demand; there's no minibar, but the hotel bar is open any time.

Bathrooms have power showers, lavender shower gel and shampoo, hairdryers and cotton wool. In some garden rooms the loo is open-plan with the bedroom (though on a different level and not visible!), offering less privacy than in the main house. There are sumptuous towels of soft cotton and bamboo mix, but no bathrobes.

Save to favouritesPrintMailBo Hotel de encantoBo Hotel de encanto & Spa is a fresh take on the boutique hotel. Owners Tony and Roxana have created a welcoming and stylish little world, cleverly converting their 1880 house with great flair and imagination. Colonial details like high ceilings and elegant windows have been preserved in 3 stunning [r:AR047:rooms], with brilliant colour combinations and Latin American art creating a refreshingly eclectic mix. Four more modern rooms lie in the sweeping landscaped gardens, with a small pool and sun terrace. All are beautifully designed and very comfortable. But Bo’s real charm is way they look after you - thoughtful professionalism in everything they do. While Roxana is cooking up feasts in the kitchen, Tony takes you horse riding in the nearby hills to explore local tobacco fincas, or on comfortable trips in his 4x4 to Cafayate and along the Calchaquí Valley, becoming your personal trilingual guide (French as well as English and Spanish) with really expert local knowledge. Forget perfunctory commercial tours or wrestling with a dictionary. It’s just like staying with very good friends who want you to love this area as much as they do. Have massages in the spa, spend a morning learning how to make perfect empanadas, and pass afternoons exploring the charming colonial town of Chicoana. A wonderful, relaxing way to see Salta province.
