"The Bon Ton resort's restaurant, The Nam, comes recommended by
Rick Stein, no less, for its excellent offerings of Malay and
Western dishes. But rest assured, you don't really need to go armed
with tips from top chefs, for wherever you are in Malaysia, you
won't struggle to find good food, you may just struggle to eat it
all."
Conde Nast Traveler (US), October 2009
"The eccentric Bon Ton Resort has eight century-old Malay
bungalows, updated with a romantic mix of Asian antiques, all
overlooking a lap pool and lagoon. Its Nam Restaurant serves
delicious Asian food with a Western twist."
Sunday Times Travel Magazine, March 2008
"With nosh to tickle the most jaded palate - diners often cross the
island from the top-dollar Datai hotel to eat at the restaurant
here - and an elegy-inducing sunset view. Lagkawi's Bon Ton punches
well above its weight and price. Add in the mellow yet chic
interior design drizzled throughout its eight antique stilt houses
(all bright stripy silks, raw wood and sunny decks) and it's a
steal. There's even a lovely lap pool to work off the gourmet
indulgence."
Conde Nast Traveler (US)
"Langkawi is one of the most ravishing places in Southeast Asia and
is already being talked of as a rising star, yet it is still a
hideaway where insiders come to revel in the ecological diversity
and to drop out of sight in a handful of five–star
hotels...
I moved into the main island's Bon Ton resort for my first few
days. A cluster of seven exquisite antique wood houses atop stilts
(the traditional Malaysian Kampung style), it is a ten–mile
drive from the main town of Kuah and just five minutes away from
the two most developed beaches—Pantai Cenang and Pantai
Tengah—yet the tranquillity is disarming. Sitting on the
veranda of the Laguna, my room at the Bon Ton, under a clear blue
sky, I look out on emerald–green paddy fields and the
occasional water buffalo."

“We've just come back from a fantastic stay at Bon Ton. The staff and service were brilliant and we loved our room (Blue Ginger) with the outdoor bathroom!
Only thing I think could be better if I'm being super critical, is that it'd be nice to have a fruit salad or sliced fruit in the fridge for breakfast and possibly the chance to have eggs or something hot from time to time.
For me the whole idea of having breakfast in the fridge the night before, so you can eat it when you want is a very good one. However in reality some of the fruit offered had to be cut up to be eaten and when you start doing that the resident lizards start getting interested because it can get a bit messy!
Really that is the only thing that would have improved our stay, everything else was really brilliant and we loved the complimentary pool snacks, great service from all staff and 5-7pm happy hour! Thank you”
Amy, United Kingdom (19.06.11)“We found Bon Ton excellent. Room, food and service were great.
We would like to have had a little more fruit in the morning, and maybe freshly squeezed fruit juice rather than in a bottle. But we would definitely go back - we stayed in white frangipani and loved it. My friends in black coral found it a little dark. The air conditioning was a little hard to control though we opended the windows later in the night. In black coral they really need to have the fan over the bed.
But otherwise it was great!”
Gina, Canada (14.03.11)“We stayed in the Laguna hut for a couple of nights in February 2011 for our 20th wedding anniversary. We loved the room, very romantic, and beautifully furnished in antique malaysian furniture, loved the quirky bathroom, adored the peaceful location, loved the long and shallow deep blue pool, and WE LOVED THE CATS.
Bon Ton is a paradise for cat lovers. They are very good, do not beg for food. We stayed in Blase's hut, Blase is the sweetest black cat. We do not know how people who do not like cats feel about Bon Ton but if you do your research, you know it is a cat and dog Sanctuary.
The staff is very attentive, very friendly, a real pleasure.
It is true luxury, because there are only 8 huts and you feel pretty much alone in a little slice of paradise. it only took a little trip to one of the all inclusive 5 minutes down the road to re-inforce how privileged we were to be in this little oasis of calm and serenity.
The only negative point in my view was the breakfast. It felt like a bit of a cop out: Left in your fridge the night before for you to prepare the following day (not a great concept). The bread was not great for spending a night in the fridge, often too savoury, ie: rosemary and rock salt focaccia, the cakes were on the stodgy side, I am not mad on having cakes for breakfast. The fruit uninspiring (an orange or apple or a pear) the yogurts a bit boring and bland, of the industrial variety.
The hotel is not cheap, and at £200 a night, I think the choice should be there on whether you prefer to prepare your own basic breakfast in your hut or have a scrambled egg / fresh fruit salad / pancakes (things you could not prepare on your own without a kitchen) at the restaurant, which is beautiful and uncrowded anyway.
Food is good at lunch and dinner, but please, listen to the various reviews on trip advisor and improve the breakfast!
All in all we adored the laid back feel of Bonton, its lovely staff and endearing cats.”
julie, United Kingdom (21.02.11)“We had a lovely night out at the 4 Seasons for dinner and cocktails which was not cheap but was lovely and beautiful.
The staff at the Bon Ton are all very friendly and helpful. The pool is bliss.
We had a brillilant time and would really recommend it.”
