Can Curreu

Near Sant Carles, northeast Ibiza

A tranquil and decadent finca with beautiful gardens and an excellent restaurant, perfect for chilling out with your partner

The northeast of Ibiza is so much more civilised than the rest of the island, and this hotel - our favourite in Ibiza - is the epitome of rustic style. Rather than lager and foam parties, you get Moët in your minibar and aromatherapy oils for your Jacuzzi. With a glass of one and a soak in the other, you can (so long as you get it the right way round) enjoy a wonderfully decadent experience that's straight out of Dynasty.

But that's just the aperitif. Stay awhile and there's a feast of pleasures: stone pathways lined with fruit trees, roses and cacti; a field of sunflowers amid glorious pine hills; sublime dinners of foie gras, lamb and fine wines; a serene pool surrounded by hot-pink bougainvillea; speedboats at your disposal; and warm, friendly staff. It's very easy on the eye and, despite being first-class, is delightfully relaxed and unpretentious. The rooms are spacious and stylish, with comfy kingsize beds, private sun terraces and quirky details - ours had brass bellows for the wood fire, a picture frame filled with sea knots, and an old-fashioned telephone. We loved it.

Highs

  • Stylish rooms that are gorgeous to relax in, each with a private terrace and a TV and DVD player, and most with comfy sofas
  • Excellent and reasonably-priced restaurant serving produce from the farm
  • Lovely views of the finca's orange and lime groves, plus panoramas of the countryside
  • Shuttered windows in rooms - cocoons of darkness at night; light flooding in during the day
  • Close to some of the island's best beaches

Lows

  • The WiFi didn't work in our room
  • The music in the restaurant isn't to everyone's taste: Indian chill-out and pan pipes
  • You need a car to get around, especially in high season when taxis are thin on the ground

One of the island's premier agrotourism hotels...
