Casa Delfino

Conde Nast Traveler (US)
"This 17th-century Venetian mansion, restored to a level of luxury that would make its original owner envious, is one street short of perfection. Sitting just in from one of the most attractive harbors in Crete, the hotel's views of harborside life are blocked on all but the uppermost floor by an intervening row of buildings. Inward-looking guests will be delighted, however, by the sanctuary of Casa Delfino's hidden courtyard (just right for breakfast in warm weather) and by the suites themselves. Although the smaller 4 of the 22 suites can more accurately be described as rooms, there is nothing quite so satisfying, in some of the larger ones, as a vaulted stone ceiling overhead and a flat-screen TV that allows you to watch CNN over the tops of your toes."

Frommer's
"When did you last have the chance to stay in a 17th-century Venetian mansion, with fresh orange juice for breakfast? Its quiet neighborhood (also dating from the 1600s) is conveniently located a block from the harbor. The owners transformed the stately house into stylish independent suites and studios, whose tastefully decorated rooms are among the most elegant you will find on Crete. All have modern bathrooms (nine with Jacuzzi), and three have kitchenettes. One potential drawback: Several rooms have beds on a second level -- little more than sleeping lofts -- that require you to go up and down stairs to get to the bathroom. (You can request other rooms.) And except for sitting in the courtyard, there's no public area in which to relax. The reception desk may be informal but the friendly staff will provide a wide range of services, from airport transport to tour arrangements."

Great Small Hotels in Greece
"Casa Delfino has 22 splendid rooms suites, most of which have a separate sitting room and bedroom. The decor elegantly combines refined modern furniture with the old architectural features of the building. For a real treat book the honeymoon suite, which has a large and elegant bedroom, a big living room and an enormous -and very romantic - bathroom with jacuzzi. Or try and get the Penthouse suite. its twin bedroom gives onto a gorgeous veranda and the teak wooden chaises longues are just the thing in order to enjoy the sweeping views over the old port.
A very pleasant experience overall, made all the better by young and competent staff, although given that this is not the smallest of hotels, what you get is more professionalism than family atmosphere."

Save to favouritesPrintMailCasa DelfinoNo, you haven’t clicked on the wrong country - despite the hotel’s Italian name, this is Greece, or more precisely Crete. Chania, of course, was a major sea-port for the Venetians, who controlled the eastern Mediterranean from here until the 17th-century. Their beautifully-built harbour walls, merchants’ homes, arsenals and warehouses have survived to make the town a delightful base for any trip to western Crete, and a cut above any other Greek city. The Casa Delfino matches this beauty in its 22 tastefully restored suites and apartments, all housed deep within a 17th-century mansion. Take a few steps off the bustling seafront and you will find yourself in a cobbled court oozing a peacefulness and style rare in Greek (or Italian) hotels. Marble tables and fer forgé chairs line an arched portico, while potted geraniums, tall cactuses and pebble-mosaics add colour. The [r:GR002:rooms] are no less sumptuous, with vaulted ceilings, marble floors, sitting areas and jacuzzis in the suites. La dolce vita, Greek style…
