Conde Nast Traveller (UK), Gold List
"This elegant hotel, on a small private island in the South
Malé Atoll, exudes laid-back style.
X FACTOR
The over-water bungalows, designed to look like dhoni fishing boats
with private decks, are understated and incredibly beautiful.
ROOMS
There are 33 suites and villas designed by architect Cheong Yew
Kwan in conjunction with owner Christina Ong (of COMO Resorts &
Hotels): the look is rustic luxe, with thatched roofs, mahogany
furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows.
FOOD
The excellent COMO Shambhala spa offers Asian-inspired therapies;
the Ufaa restaurant blends Indian and Sri Lankan influences on a
seafood-focused menu."
The Ultimate Worldwide Island Beach Guide, Conde Nast Traveller
(UK),
"Tiny Cocoa Island is virtually all beach, all of it white sand,
complemented by palm trees and a lagoon of tranquil sky-blue water.
The resort offers diving, small boat sailing and a spa. The resort
will drop you off on your own private beach, where you can remain
blissfully isolated for as long as the sunscreen holds out."
100 Best Places to Stay, The Sunday Times Travel
Magazine"Sounds gimmicky; feels just lovely thank you. All the
rooms at Cocoa are dhonis - local fishing boats - moored to
a wooden walkway which wends its way across the shallow waters of
the lagoon. They're firmly fixed in place, so there's no rocking,
but there is the unflightably relaxing sound of wavelets lapping
quietly at timber - and it leaves the island itself free for great
arcs of toe-tinglingly soft sand, an open-walled restaurant and
bar, a Zen-style infinity pool and quite possibly the Maldives'
most serene spa. At the dhoni's aft end, meanwhile, is a
balcony, a stepladder... and the world's widest, warmest, most
deliciously blue-green paddling pool (aka the Indian Ocean).
Terrific diving and snorkelling and great fishing are all within a
few metres; and the lazing's pretty good around these parts
too."
Best Island Beaches, Conde Nast Traveler (US)
"It's hard to go wrong the in the Maldives, which has 87 one-resort
islands on its atolls, all with worthy beaches.
Wow Factor: Tiny Cocoa Island is virtually all beach, all of
it white sand, complemented by palms and a lagoon of tranquil
sky-blue water.
Best Bed: Cocoa Island resort has diving, small-boat sailing and a
spa.
Bonus: If that's too much activity for you, they'll drop you off on
your own private beach, where you can remain blissfully isolated
for as long as the sunscreen holds out."

“Simply fabulous. Understated perfection in every way. Sand as soft as flour, unbelievable turquoise water and fish all around. Delicious food. Don't expect lots of bling or gaudiness. Even though not a cheap option, you get what you pay for and here it's a slice of heaven. Surreal.”

Christine, United Kingdom (03.05.11)“Cocoa Island is an exceptional boutique resort hotel. There are only 33 suites in total providing a near deserted island experience. With a focus on rest and relaxation, the resort and its facilities are more suited to couples and individuals as opposed to families or even groups. The service was very casual and friendly however at times felt a little disorganised (which in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the resort). The suites were amazing with lots of space and chic furnishings. We were given a complimentary upgrade from a Dhoni Suite to a Dhoni Loft Suite on arrival. As for overall value, I have rated this highly due to the special rate we received through i-escape and the suite upgrade however I expect that a stay at Cocoa Island during peak season could be very pricey. In any event, I think you get what you pay for and in that regard the resort, for me, represents value for money.”
