EcoCamp

Torres del Paine, Chilean Patagonia

Press Reviews

USA Today, April 2008
"You could use the term luxury camping to explain this operation, but portable four-star hotel more accurately describes EcoCamp Patagonia, the first eco-accommodations south of the Amazon. Located in Chile's Torres del Paine National Park near the monolithic Paine Towers, EcoCamp Patagonia can also lay claim to one of the most stunning panoramas of any lodging in the world.

Modeling their design on the huts made by the nomadic Kawesqar people, Patagonia's ancient inhabitants, planners devised a system of domed tents built to be portable but spacious, comfortable, and strong enough to withstand Patagonia's high winds...

Each sleeping dome is fitted with wooden floors, two beds with fleece sheets and feather quilts, lighting powered by solar and wind energy, and round skylight windows."

Save to favouritesPrintMailEcoCampIf you want to hike the spectacular trails in the heart of the Torres del Paine but don’t fancy hauling your tent, EcoCamp is the comfortable alternative. Choose from various trekking packages of all lengths and levels, with excellent bilingual guides, and meals, drinks and transfers included. The friendly young staff take great care to make both hiking expeditions and your stay at the camp well-organised and welcoming. Congregate around the wood-burning stove in the large dining dome for drinks before dinner. Then retire, with a hot water bottle and a lamp, to your geodesic [r:CL026:dome]: wooden floors, real beds with lots of warm bedding, and a window in the roof to see the stars. EcoCamp has minimal impact on the environment, but shared eco-bathrooms with loos and hot showers (and compost loos in the Suite Domes) feel like the real thing. Feel the wind and hear the birdsong, and in the morning when you open your tent flap, it’s a miracle to see the Torres right there, lit by the morning light, beckoning you to get out there and hike.
