El Cancho

Tarifa, Andalucia, Spain

Location
El Cancho is 3km north of Tarifa town, set back from the beautiful bays of Playa de los Lances and Playa de Valdevaqueros, with wonderful views across the Straits of Gibraltar to north Africa. Tarifa is on the southern tip of Spain, 1.5 hours southeast of Jerez, 1 hour southwest of Gibraltar and 2 hours southwest of Malaga.

The houses are a short walk (100m) from the parking spot, across a stream and then downhill.

By Air:
Gibraltar North Front (50km away), Jerez Airport (80km away) and Malaga Airport (150km away) are the closest. Click on the links below for a list of airlines serving them.

From the Airport:
You'll definitely need to hire a car to get to El Cancho as it's off the beaten track, and you'd feel very isolated without one. We recommend Holiday Autos, which offers very competitive prices. You can collect your vehicle from any of the airports mentioned above.

Detailed directions will be sent to you when you book through through i-escape.com.

Save to favouritesPrintMailEl CanchoJust 3km north of Tarifa, and a short stroll from the windswept beaches of the Atlantic, lies El Cancho - a pair of contemporary pre-fab beach houses on a grassy hillside, surrounded by rocky outcrops and pine forest. They were originally designed for Milan’s Salon del Mobile (1998) by a collaboration between Swedish architect Thomas Sandell and Wallpaper* magazine. The appropriately named [r:SP030:Wallpaper House] is a feat in compact living, although it sleeps 4-6 people; its smaller neighbour, [r:SP030:Boston Beach House], sleeps 2-4, and is less sophisticated but lovely with an all-glass frontage. The simple, open-plan settings suit young couples looking for a romantic hideaway, or groups of kitesurfing friends, thanks to the strong winds the area is famous for. While the houses may be new builds, this is a real back-to-nature experience with eco-friendly ideals: solar panels provide electricity for lighting and power, whilst gas heats water directly from the mountain spring. The local farmer still herds his goats around the hillside, so you may have the enchanting soundtrack of jingling goats' bells while you siesta. And you won't see a car - the houses are a short walk (across a stream, then downhill) from the parking spot.
