Erongo Wilderness Lodge

Erongo Mountains, Namibia

An awe-inspiring wilderness camp set atop gargantuan boulders in the Erongo Mountain Conservancy, in central Namibia

Travel in Namibia is all about communing with vast, pristine and inspirational landscapes. The Erongo Wilderness Lodge offers you just that experience, laid out before you in all of its raw beauty. This masterfully crafted camp of thatched and tented bandas, linked by snaking wooden walkways, sits atop a rocky koppie at the edge of a 200,000 hectare slice of wilderness reserve, which encompasses desert, mountain and bushveld ecosystems.

Your adventure begins in Omaruru, with an exhilarating jeep ride up through the boulders to the base of the camp. From here on Erongo is best explored on foot: baboons, lizards and dassies (rock hyrax) scurry amongst the rocks whilst every tree and bush seems to harbour a different species of bird. At the koppie's pinnacle the main lodge has soaring views out across the vast volcanic crater that forms the heart of the Nature Conservancy; this is a place where you really get a finger on the pulse of this amazing country and continent.

Highs

  • A physical setting of rare, untamed beauty
  • The thrill of exploring the bush on foot - either alone or in the company of one of the lodge's expert guides
  • One of the country's prime birding sites, with Hartlaub’s Francolins, Rosy-faced Lovebirds and White-tailed Shrikes
  • Exceptionally diverse flora born of the interplay of mountain, desert and veld ecosystems
  • It would be hard to better Erongo's stilted and tented sleeping quarters
  • Friendly, pro-active and relaxed staff

Lows

  • Don't expect to see huge amounts of game but do count on amazing bird, reptile and insect life
  • If you prefer to explore the conservancy by jeep rather than on foot, expect to pay a little extra

Erongo is unique and acts as an excellent guardian of the surrounding area...
