Grand Hotel des Bains
Locquirec, Brittany, France
Activities
- Locquirec is a hiker's paradise: you can walk around the
point in 15 minutes, passing a series of tempting tiny coves, and
on along the well-marked 'Sentier des Douaniers' fringing
Brittany’s dramatic coastline; or branch inland if you want a
change
- The hotel runs 5-day spa packages and occasional yoga
courses
- Watersports, including swimming, diving and
kite-surfing, are all available in the village between June and
September, and sailing all year round (the Ecole de Voile Francaise
is right opposite the hotel). There are diving schools at Carantec
and Plougasnou, and the Baie de Locquirec has decent surfing on an
exposed beach break, though summer tends to be flat
- Other sports available locally include golf
(Carantec’s 9-hole golf course is renowned for its
exceptional seaside setting overlooking Morlaix Bay), riding,
fishing and cycling (bikes can be hired in the village)
- Fifteen minutes east, near St Michel-en-Greves, is the
Chateau de Rosanbo (open April-Oct), with 17th-19th century
architecture and beautifully designed grounds courtesy of Achille
Duchene
- Festivals and markets are an important feature of Breton
life. A small market is held in Locquirec on Wednesdays,
there’s a market in Morlaix on Saturdays and a larger one in
Lannion on Thursdays. Virtually every village holds its own Fest
Noz (an evening festival that usually involves music and booze) or
Pardon (religious local pilgrimage) in the summer. In October an
organ festival of baroque music is held at Lanvellec 20 mins away

- If ancient churches are your thing, besides
Locquirec’s own Eglise de St Jacques, there's the magnificent
cathedral of Treguier (1 hour away), with its soaring steeple and
tomb of St. Yves, the patron saint of lawyers, who flock here in
May to attend the annual Pardon (pilgrimmage). Closer to home is
the church of Saint-Jean-du-Doigt, which owes its name and fame to
the finger of St John the Baptist, housed here since the 15th
century and still a magnet for pilgrims during its June
Pardon.
- You won’t find much wine in Brittany, but its cider is remarkably good. If you want to see how it’s made and indulge in a bit of a dégustation, there are cidreries in the villages of Plouegat-Guerrand and Guimaec (ask hotel staff for directions)
