Hotel Barcelo La Bobadilla

near Loja, Andalucia, Spain

Activities

  • Part of the attraction of La Bobadilla is that you’re wrapped up in 1,000 acres of private farm land; all of which is yours to roam. You can do this on foot (there are hiking maps and picnics to take with you), horseback (the hotel has its own stables), mountain bikes (trails run from 5km to 25km) or quads. A rich migratory bird life passes through, so bring your binoculars.

  • Cordoba and Granada are both about an hour’s drive. They are beguiling cities, utterly unmissable and full of dazzling Moorish architecture. If you want some ancient culture, you’ll get it.

  • If you fancy something more intrepid than a drive through the local countryside, helicopter tours, jaunts in light aircraft and hot-air ballooning (as far as the Alhambra, if you want) can all be arranged.

  • There’s golf at Antequera (35 km away). The hotel will book tee times.

  • Clay-pigeon shooting takes place on the premises, but you’ll need to show a gun license in order to take part. You can also try your hand at archery.

  • There's a great outdoor pool set in large gardens, and a fabulous spa complex, with an indoor pool, saunas and Turkish steam baths. Massages can be arranged. There’s a good gym and a beauty salon, for all sorts of treatments – facials, manicures, pedicures, hairdresser.

  • Finally, come to get married here; lots of people do - they even have their own chapel.

Save to favouritesPrintMailHotel Barcelo La BobadillaA 3km private drive sweeps you up through olive groves to this gorgeous collection of whitewashed houses. It’s a fairyland setting on the crest of a small hill with the sun-washed Sierra de Loja all around you. Walk up to the main house and a serene courtyard welcomes you; water runs in the fountain and the scent of rosemary fills the air. You’ll think you’ve washed up at an ancient village, perhaps a princely estate, but what looks 200 years old is a mere babe in arms: 20 years ago there was only one house here. Now the style is smart, rural, timeless, with soaring brick arches in a marble hall, terracotta rooftops tumbling down hill and a bell tower in the courtyard. Wonderful [r:SP047:rooms] have balconies or terraces, a huge shimmering pool lazes in a bowl of lush lawn, 1,000 acres of private land wrap around you. Tracks and trails lead out into it, so choose your mode of transport - foot, horse, bicycle, quad - and go and explore.
