'Winner Most Romantic Hotel, Europe 2009'
"Following a major extension, this beautiful hotel now has 70
bedrooms filled with unique touches and modern facilities such as
plasma TVs and playstations by parents’ request, in the
family rooms. All rooms have views across the Granada Hills. El
Cortijo offers a variety of regional dishes, and the spa is an
opulent, welcome addition. Jump on a bike, horse, quad-bike or
buggie to see the area."
The Irish Times, April 2009
"At the top end of the scale is the five-star Barceló La
Bobadilla, near Loja, 60km from Malaga and 70km from Granada.
Although only 20 years old, La Bobadilla resembles a traditional
Andalusian palace, set in 350 hectares of Mediterranean forest. It
was built about 20 years ago by a German millionaire to entertain
his friends before he sold it to the Barceló luxury hotel
chain. And no luxury has been spared at La Bobadilla; the 70 rooms
are all large, and each has different decor. The atmosphere is of a
Moorish palace, with a labyrinth of patios and passageways, some
whitewashed and others elaborately tiled, overlooking wonderful
gardens. The hotel is especially proud of its Mudéjar chapel
and 1,595-pipe organ, which is a terrific setting for a memorable
wedding.
Anyone who wants to do more than chill out on the patio, around the
pool or in the spa can choose a horse from the hotel stables, tour
the grounds on a quad bike, rent a mountain bike or even hover over
the landscape in a hot-air balloon. La Bobadilla also arranges
wine, oil and caviar tastings for guests. The beluga-style caviar
comes from the nearby Riofrio sturgeon farm, which can also be
visited."
Frommer's Guide to Spain
"An hour's drive northeast of Málaga, La Bobadilla is the
most luxurious retreat in southern Spain... a secluded oasis in the
foothills of the Sierra Nevada near the town of Loja... The hotel
complex is built like an Andalusian village, a cluster of
whitewashed casas constructed around a tower and a white church.
Every casa has a roof terrace and a balcony overlooking the olive
grove-studded district. Each sumptuous accommodation is
individually designed, from the least expensive doubles to the most
expensive King's Suite (which has plenty of room for bodyguards).
All rooms have sumptuous bathrooms containing tub/shower combos.
The hotel caters to a pampered coterie of international guests, and
the service is perhaps the finest in Spain..."

Itineraries
"This deluxe resort is an experience unto itself, spectacularly
situated on over 1,000 acres of scenic countryside. No detail has
been overlooked to offer every convenience in a distinctive
atmosphere combining characteristic Andalusian style with
contemporary elegance. Graceful Moorish arches, carved-wood
ceilings, tiled patios, grilled terraces, marble fountains, and
blossoming gardens surround the pampered guest in this intimate
hideaway... Each spacious guestroom is unique, richly and
imaginatively decorated in soft colors, with a large bathroom
(featuring both bath and shower), and either a balcony or garden
patio from which you can enjoy the tranquil landscape. There are
decadent suites and sumptuous Imperial suites. In addition, you
have your choice of two dining spots, one of which, La Finca, has
gained justifiable regional renown..."

“Pretty décor and very calm - love little balcony
Food was good but expensive and limited openings of bar food and restaurants. Breakfast is good but needs more organic or local produce at present feels like corporate hotel spread.
Staff are kind but not much English spoken - and feels very by the book...needs more charm. I really object to the ridiculous prices charged for water when being told tap water is not good to drink - yet there is no alternative - I mean 3 euros for a tiny 50 cl bottle of volvic - its insane!!!!! I drink like 3 litres a day in that heat, at most 5 star places I have been to and much lower starred absolutely normal to put iced water jugs around the place near the spa in the reception with lemon slices etc and a bowl of apples just those little touches that make a difference.
The courtyard is sweet and the grounds lovely there need to be more touches like hammocks and reading swings in pretty areas - feels very corporate and unimaginative when buildings are very charming.”
