Hotel Josef

Prague, Czech Republic

Eating

A bountiful buffet breakfast is served in a big, light room, one wall of which is entirely plate-glass. Tables are chrome, chairs are wicker and there are outside tables in a courtyard for an alfresco breakfast. There’s a superlative choice of fruits – dependent on the season you’ll get strawberries, raspberries, figs, blackberries and so on to go with the great choice of yoghurts.

If you’re after a more substantial breakfast, you can order eggs, from Benedict to Florentine and beyond, and there are sausages, mushrooms, etc (extra cost). There’s a great range of breads, including bagels, and of course, hams, cheeses, and pickles, and you can also order pancakes. There’s also a choice of coffee, tea, herbal teas and freshly squeezed orange juice.

In the Josef cafe-bar you can order light snacks throughout the day, and room service is also available; dishes range from club sandwich and chips to chicken in mustard sauce with tagliatelle.

You’re surrounded by a great choice of restaurants in this central, tourist-friendly area too. Hotel Josef has many Prague tips for you including recommended restaurants and cafes.

Save to favouritesPrintMailHotel JosefDesigned by Czech-born Eva Jiricna, this is a cool, modernist 109-[r:PR010:room] hotel that appears on every Prague hip list. The location is fantastic: within 10 minutes’ walk of Old Town square, it’s tucked away in a side street. Although close to the tourist hotspots, it feels like a corner of real Prague. Reception adjoins a large, open dazzling-white bar-café area, which has a dramatic glass and steel spiral staircase that curls down to the basement. Two buildings, Pink and Orange, face each other across a grassy courtyard. It’s all head-to-toe designer minimalism, with lots of glass, white, perspex, and shots of colour. Jelly-hued chairs by Philippe Starck decorate the glass-sided walkway between the two buildings, differentiated only by the colour of room numbers outside the doors. Striking to look at and tranquil to inhabit, Josef feels welcoming and warm, a sign of good management from Austrian Manfred Tobolka and team. The attention to detail gives it that extra edge, and it feels equally appropriate for tourists and business folk.
