Hotel Le Sainte-Beuve
Paris, France
Press Reviews
The Independent, January 2010
"Love is most definitely in the air. And where could be more
romantic than Paris? Stay at the Hotel Le Sainte-Beuve in
St-Germain des Pres, where the décor is dominated by reds
and pinks and was conceived by renowned British designer David
Hicks. There’s a crackling log fire, cosy bar and elegant
rooms."
Travel + Leisure, May 2007
"Hôtel Le Sainte-Beuve, which takes its name from the
19th-century literary critic Charles-Augustin Sainte-Beuve, is for
traditionalists. In the lobby, a wood-burning fireplace is flanked
by red couches and antique furniture. Each of the 22 individually
decorated rooms gets marks for charm, but No. 6 is the standout;
its turquoise walls are covered with romantic charcoal portraits of
Parisian women. That said, if you’re looking for something
roomier, stay in the Sainte-Beuve suite: street- and
courtyard-facing windows and a small lounge area make it feel like
a private pied-à-terre."
The Daily Telegraph, April 2007
"With its deep sofas, lovely flower displays and striking modern
art and sculpture, the pillared lobby feels like a smart, inviting
living room.
At the rear, Champagne awaits in a bucket on the bar. The tasteful
bedrooms are all different, and have antiques and interesting
paintings and prints. Only four are at the cheapest price, and they
are small, but they have good-sized bathrooms, and come with the
same accoutrements as more expensive rooms, such as
air-conditioning and bathrobes."
Fodor's
"Smack between the Jardin du Luxembourg and boulevard de
Montparnasse's timeless cafés and brasseries, tucked into a
tiny tranquil street, you'll find the pleasant Sainte-Beuve. A
spacious lobby bathed in light has a wood-fire hearth and is ringed
by Greek revival columns. Whites and pastels dominate in the
conservatively decorated rooms designed by Brit David Hicks, who
prefers antiques and a clean, uncluttered look. Each floor has two
rooms that can be booked individually or as adjoining suites.
Extras like bathrobes and breakfast pastries delivered to your room
from famed pâtissier Mulot are a treat."
Frommer's
"Lying off the tree-lined boulevard Raspail, this Montparnasse
choice is close to the "Lost Generation" cafes made famous in the
pages of Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. The famous English
decorator, David Hicks, had a hand in the stylish decor. If you
stay here, you're just 3 minutes from the Luxembourg gardens. You
enter a small reception area opening into a Georgian parlor with
plush sofas, armchairs, and columns, even a marble fireplace for
those nippy Paris nights. Bedrooms are often furnished in part with
antiques but have all the modern comforts. Some come with small
sitting rooms; all have marble bathrooms equipped with everything
from deluxe toiletries to makeup mirrors. The cheaper rooms are
small. If you can afford it, ask for one of the deluxe units, which
also have love seats and safes."

“Nice hotel in a good location. We had the interconnecting rooms 7/8 which were perfect for our family of 5 and very good value. Recommended.”
Rob, United Kingdom (12.02.12)“We really liked the location and restaurant recommendations from the hotel staff. Dinner at ‘Le Timbre’, two doors down from the hotel was to be recommended - delicious and atmospheric. There is excellent shopping at Le Bon Marche, a 10 minute walk from hotel”
Laura, United Kingdom (19.11.11)“The bedroom was small as always in Paris. The bathroom was of a very good size, however it lacked the finishing touches such as extra shampoo and shower gel only one of each, no face towels.
We had a drink in the lounge. It was pleasant but the fire was not lit. Next evening when I was leaving the fire was lit and it looked lovely.
We did not feel the reception staff could recommend restaurants in area.
Overall value we felt it was expensive.
I know rates in Paris are generally expensive, not convinced I would stay there again, although very convenient when coming from Gard du Nord.”
Eithne, Switzerland (11.11.11)“My husband and I stayed here for my birthday for three nights in October and had a really relaxing stay. The hotel was a beautifully decorated haven, a lovely break from looking after our two small children! We were on a budget so chose a standard room which was small (as we had expected) but really very nice. We really enjoyed sitting in the lobby in the evenings and found the service to be excellent and very friendly at all times. Staff were only too happy to recommend and book restaurants for us in advance and offer with advice on places to visit. We travelled on eurostar and there is a direct metro link from the gare du nord which was a real bonus. Try Le Timbre restaurant on the same street - beautiful food and intimate atmosphere.”
charlotte, United Kingdom (17.10.11)“Lovely location, wonderful breakfast, a gem. Rooms are a bit small, but very comfortable after all.”
Marcela, United States (03.06.11)“The superior room was smaller than I expected, and a very similar size to the cheaper classic room.
A very enjoyable small hotel. Rooms quite small as there were three of us in our room including our baby, but it was really really good.
The metro is direct to Vavin from Gare du Nord when you get to Paris on the Eurostar. The Park du Luxembourg is lovely to walk around nearby. A nice area.”
Holly, United Kingdom (22.11.10)“The room was small but lovely. Staff were lovely and very helpful. They found us a really good dinner just around the corner. A very convenient location - we went by train, much the best way to get to Paris I think, and the hotel is on a direct Metro line from Gard du Nord. A successful trip!”
madelon, United Kingdom (31.10.10)“We liked the polite and helpful service, especially from Akeem. The location is fantastic and the hotel itself is a real jewel. What a perfect place to stay while in Paris!
Don't miss Amorino's (ice cream) a block away!”
