Hotel Portinari

Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro

Location
Hotel Portinari is located one block back from the beach in Copacabana and just a couple of blocks from Ipanema, so you get the best of both areas.

By Air:
International flights to Rio land at Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (26km away); domestic flights normally arrive at Santos Dumont Domestic Airport (9km away). Click on the links below for a list of airlines serving both these airports.

From the Airport
The hotel can arrange transfers (see Rates), or you can take a radio taxi - buy a pre-paid voucher at the Transcoopass desk in the arrivals hall.

By Car:
If you want to hire a car to get around and to explore the surrounding region, we recommend Holiday Autos, which offers competitive prices. You can collect your car at either of the airports mentioned above, or downtown. Secure car parking is available near the hotel.

By Bus:
Brazil's major cities are linked by excellent bus services. Always travel first class because the difference in fares is nominal, but it means you get air-con, reclining seats and bathroom facilities on board. Services stop at the Novo Rio Rodoviaria terminal downtown; from there you can take a taxi to the hotel.

Detailed directions will be sent to you when you book through i-escape.com.

Save to favouritesPrintMailHotel PortinariNot sure whether to stay in Copacabana or Ipanema? Hotel Portinari captures the best of both worlds. Situated half way between these 2 legendary beaches, it's named after Brazil's famous Modernist painter, Candido Portinari, and is a work of art in its own right. Ten of Brazil's top architects and designers were invited to bring their unique creativity to different parts of the hotel, from the lobby bar to the rooftop restaurant. Each of the 11 floors was assigned a different architect, including Gilmar Peres and Marcia Muller. Result: 66 [r:BR002:rooms] and suites ranging from soothing, contemporary and minimalist to colourful, tropical or traditional. Wherever you are in the hotel the different styles will reach you, whether it be the spa mosaics, the specially commissioned black and white stills of Rio, or the staff's funky uniforms. When it first opened, this hotel managed to break the mould. Today it still wins its place as one of a kind.
