High in the Tuscan hills, Lupaia sits in a rolling green valley that’s gently punctuated by cypress trees, ordered vineyards and the occasional farmhouse. To the east you look up to majestic Montepulciano; straight ahead the quiet town of Montefollonico, yet the hotel itself is wrapped in a cocoon of birdsong and peace. We visited briefly and left reluctantly, bewitched by the luscious pool and the promise of pure relaxation. Once a medieval borgo, Lupaia's old stones, rafters, beams and tiles were renovated with consummate care by the Murzilli family, then dressed up with silk sofas, lustruous swags, handpainted walls and rustic fireplaces. It was a real labour of love, over 3 years in the making, and now its 8 [r:IT064:rooms] ooze enticements and bold colours. The overall impression is one of lavish design, comfort and space - a joyfully unminimalist mix that seduces from the word go.
