Ibrik Resort by the River

Bangkok, Thailand

Activities

  • Bangkok’s answer to bohemia, next-door Patravadi Theatre is abuzz with music, dance and theatrical performances every Friday and Saturday night; you can hear music and drumming during the day, which adds to the guesthouse's atmosphere

  • A market takes up the narrow alleyways close to the guesthouse, and a couple of hours can easily be filled discovering the quirky knick-knacks on sale here. The brave can try out some of the sweet Thai desserts and oily savoury snacks on offer. Shoes, dresses, t-shirts etc. are also available

  • Wat Rakang Boat Pier is a few steps away. Take a public water taxi into town along the Chao Phraya river, or rent a longtail boat and whiz along this sensation-filled aquatic artery which bisects the city

  • Backpacker-ville, Khao San Road, is a taxi ride away, or a couple of stops on the water taxi. This is the area to buy tacky clothing, fake CDs/DVDs, fraudulent degree certificates and press passes, and to drink until you drop. Or, more sensibly, to feast on a diverse array of cuisines, from Israeli to Indian to Thai to fast-food

  • Wat Arun, Wat Pho, the Temple of Dawn, the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha are all in the near vicinity, an easy one- or 2-stop water taxi ride away

Activities on site or nearby include:

  • Boat trips
  • Historical sites
  • Museums/galleries
  • Nightlife
  • Shopping/markets
  • Traditional cultures
Save to favouritesPrintMailIbrik Resort by the RiverOn the banks of the olde-worlde Thonburi side of Bangkok, Ibrik River (as opposed to Ibrik City) is not an easy hotel to find. It's tucked between the Patravadi Theatre's Studio 9 eatery, and a townhouse which I initially thought was the hotel. But, once you've found the small white gate, darted down the narrow path into a little garden and entered the demure café/lobby, you realise that you’ve stumbled upon a rather special, idiosyncratic hidey-home in Bangkok’s most Bohemian spot. One of the first boutique properties to open in Bangkok in 2004, this petite gem - white, clean-lined and filled with dappled light and breeze - is a triumph of understatement: polished concrete floors, contemporary bathrooms and grandma’s attic furniture. Only 3 [r:TH029:guestrooms] means privacy and quiet, and the staff are incredibly polite and helpful. This little spot is like a home away from home in sprawling, bustling Bangkok, and a welcome respite at the end of a long day of sightseeing.
