Ibrik Resort by the River

Bangkok, Thailand

Press Reviews

The Guardian, January 2011
"Another riverside option is the Ibrik Resort..., a white waterfront house over the river in Thonburi with just three rooms, which come with four-poster beds. You could lose yourself for two days in the historic temples and food markets of Ko Ratanakosin and traditional streets of Thonburi without having to do anything more strenuous than take a short river ferry journey."

The Guardian, December 2007
"Barely big enough to be called an "inn", Ibrik feels more like a private residence with only three guest rooms and a non-commercial location in Thonburi, across the river from Bangkok. A small, understated sign marks the entrance from the pedestrian lane that winds past a local market, a renowned theatre school and a neighbourhood temple. The interior is crisp and modern and the River Room has a big picture window drinking in the adjacent Chao Phraya River (although the river traffic is as noisy as it is picturesque)."

Hip Hotels Orient
"An ibrik is a small container for pouring coffee. It's also the smallest urban Hip Hotel in Asia, with three rooms and a café on the banks of Bangkok's Chao Phraya River. Three rooms hardly seem worth the effort - for the proprietor, that is. But for the guest it's a fantastic opportunity to experience the hustle and bustle of Bangkok without feeling like one of thousands of farang (foreign) tourists... The sheer magic of Ibrik is you can sit on your terrace, which is literally hanging over the river, and watch this fascinating city go by - without the claustrophobic feeling of being trapped in your hotel room."

  • “Beautiful high-end guesthouse (but not boutique hotel). Close to river and temples, yet calm setting.”
    Rob, Singapore (29.04.12)

  • “We were lucky enough to have the hotel to ourselves over New Year and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating! They were discreet but attentive and we have nothing but praise for this tiny little gem situated right on the river bank. We'll definitely be back! There's a wonderful bohemian Art Cafe next door to the hotel, so you don't have to go very far for a delicious fushion lunch or dinner.”
    Ursula, Vietnam (01.01.12)

  • “We booked two rooms, the Sunshine and River rooms and had to transfer to the Moonlight room as the River room flooded each evening and morning. We understand this happens often in September/October so beware when booking. The open air shower in the Moonlight room was interesting in the rain. Having said all that the staff could not have been more helpful and the river views were outstanding.”
    john, United Kingdom (27.09.11)

  • “Yes its different, but a warning about booking the river room during September or October needs to be made clear. The seasonal heavy rains flooded the whole of the ground floor during our stay, but we were lucky and was able to move to a empty room on the next floor. It came as a surprise to me, but not to the staff, who said it is normal for the time of year. But the staff are very good and my family enjoyed the stay.”
Harold David, United Arab Emirates (13.09.11)

  • “An absolute gem of a hotel. A friendlier welcome I have never received!
We stayed in the Sunshine Room and it was worth the price just for the views from the terrace outside the room alone.
If you are someone who needs a 24hr concierge and Hilton-style ammenities then this is not the place for you, but if you really want to experience the beating heart of Bangkok in clean and comfortable surroundings I cannot imagine that anywhere comes close to this place. Next time I am in Bangkok, this is where I'm staying; no doubt about it!
    Highly highly recommended.”

  • “Amazing experience, recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in a quiet pocket of Bangkok.”
    Darshana, United States (25.07.11)

  • “We liked the service, small size of hotel and the terrace. The coffee shop round the corner is great and the massage I had in the local market was brilliant.”
    christian, United Kingdom (02.01.11)

  • “The Boutique hotel is really lovely - I would especially recommend the "Sunshine" Room on the first floor with a huge private terrace right by the river. The downstairs room is too close to the water level for my taste and the terrace is a lot smaller.
There is a charming atmosphere, you feel more at home than at a hotel.
You can enjoy great views on the busy life on the river right from your bed.
Nice service with breakfast served to your terrace.
The hotel is quite far away from the shopping centers, Chinatown and Bangkok nightlife. Taxi transport is a big issue due to traffic jams and drivers not able to read the instructions to get to the hotel. Ferries stop running after 7pm, so you can't cross the river anymore (you would be forced to take taxis).
Communication was at times a bit difficult with the hotel personnel.
If you need extra services like booking a tour outside of Bangkok or a night show etc. you better contact the concierge of a big hotel.
Most restaurants you will read about in guidebooks are quite far away, which can be a problem especially in the evening. However there are two quite good restaurants right next to Ibrik Hotel (Patravi Theater; Riverside Restaurant).”

Save to favouritesPrintMailIbrik Resort by the RiverOn the banks of the olde-worlde Thonburi side of Bangkok, Ibrik River (as opposed to Ibrik City) is not an easy hotel to find. It's tucked between the Patravadi Theatre's Studio 9 eatery, and a townhouse which I initially thought was the hotel. But, once you've found the small white gate, darted down the narrow path into a little garden and entered the demure café/lobby, you realise that you’ve stumbled upon a rather special, idiosyncratic hidey-home in Bangkok’s most Bohemian spot. One of the first boutique properties to open in Bangkok in 2004, this petite gem - white, clean-lined and filled with dappled light and breeze - is a triumph of understatement: polished concrete floors, contemporary bathrooms and grandma’s attic furniture. Only 3 [r:TH029:guestrooms] means privacy and quiet, and the staff are incredibly polite and helpful. This little spot is like a home away from home in sprawling, bustling Bangkok, and a welcome respite at the end of a long day of sightseeing.
