Explore Zanzibar’s remote islands, secluded beaches and best dive spots on a catamaran

Given that the whole Swahili civilization is built on sailing and that Zanzibar is the heart of Swahili culture, there could be no better way to explore these scattered tropical islands than by boat. Gliding past a wooden jahazi shipping cloves to Muscat, meeting a colourful family aboard their dhow, swopping fish-talk with a passing outrigger, sending the local kids out for clams and mussels … this shows you a side of Zanzibari life that you won’t see in any hotel or resort. It allows you to explore secluded beaches, uninhabited islands, remote dive locations and wrecks. And it happens to be great fun, thanks in no small part to the excellent, laid-back company of skipper and dive instructor, Peter.

Over the last 7 years Peter has come to know these waters like the backs of his tanned hands, and now offers anything from a one day private charter to a 10-day island-hop on his 15.5-metre (50-foot) catamaran. Tailor-made charters are easily arranged, and couples, families and small groups are all welcome.

Why we chose this partner

  • We adored our time on the boat: good food, great company
  • Unlike many other companies, Peter offers the chance to explore remote dive sites and beaches
  • They cater for all levels of certified divers, and can organise PADI and speciality courses
  • Fully equipped for divers, and, of course, your safety is of paramount importance
  • Snorkelling and fishing are also on the menu
  • Since our visit, i-escape guests have rated it as ‘the highlight of their time on Zanzibar’

One more word of advice ...

Enquire as early as possible, and at least a month ahead: not only does he get booked up quickly, but also it can take a while for Peter to respond and fine-tune the itinerary if he is away sailing.
