La Almunia del Valle
Monachil, south of Granada
Rooms
All the rooms have the same soothing style, but all are different.
First-floor rooms (numbers 2-7) get the longer views; those on the
ground floor (numbers 8-12) have doors that open onto the garden
(one of which gets less light than the others as a tree stands in
front of the window). You get ceiling fans, pretty throws,
Mediterranean colours and terracotta-tiled floors. Beds are
immaculate, with eiderdowns and the crispest linen. Every room has
a couple of delightful armchairs - small, well-made and sumptuously
upholstered - which face towards the windows.
Bathrooms, all ensuite, are similarly indulging. Some come
with shower only; 5 have a bath as well. All are spacious, some are
huge. You get hand-potted ceramic sinks, mosaic walls in the power
showers and pretty glasses, big mirrors and candles. One is built
into the side of the hill and has a stone wall.
Room 7 has double-aspect windows and a fresco on the wall
above the bed. Room 2 and and the slightly larger Room
3 both have great views and four-poster beds.
Wander around in the rooms and you’ll find padded bedheads,
contemporary art on the walls, rugs, TVs, books and good lighting.
A welcome tray with coffee, tea and sweets is replaced daily, as is
the water and juice in the complimentary minibar.
