Lanson Place Hotel
Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
Rooms
Bedrooms, from the well-sized 380 sq.ft 'superior' to the 550sq.ft
'grand luxe' - that's big for Hong Kong - are oases of calm. The
feel is modern-corporate - what you'd expect from a large hotel -
so there are harmonious colours, immaculate carpeting, clean lines
and chrome and beechwood furniture. Tall windows that fill the
rooms with light are hung with pale curtains that glide
effortlessly from left to right; at night, the illuminated
cityscape unfurls before you - a dazzling panorama. (The
best rooms, by the way, face Victoria Park.) DVDs and books at
reception are welcome extras. The largest suites have beech-fronted
filing cabinets, glass desks with task lights and sofa'd seating
areas tastefully screened from beds.
The marble and granite bathrooms are top-notch. There are
kitchenettes too, with plain white or wooden fronted units,
fridges and microwaves - handy if you fancy making cocktails, and
invaluable for guests with specific dietary needs. Bathrooms are
separated from the bedrooms by a frosted glass and mirror divide;
some guests might be happier with more privacy, but the showers are
terrific.
