L'Avenida

Soller, Mallorca

Eating

L'Avenida's Bistro restaurant offers an appetising brand of modern Mediterranean cuisine thanks to the personal attention of Paul Slipjer (marketing experience at Hotel Cipriani in Venice and Hotel Splendido in Portofino must have helped him know his onions). Breakfast provides a spread of moorish homemade muesli, jams, mini pastries, local hams and cheeses, plus freshly squeezed juice from Soller oranges.

Lunch can be enjoyed in shaded areas around the pool or in the in-house restaurant. Both settings are wonderfully conducive to long lazy lunches, and dishes like warm goat's cheese salad and beef carpaccio with artichoke hearts are exactly what you want to eat when it's hot.

The restaurant is open twice weekly for tapas and every Wednesday there's a poolside BBQ with terriyaki salmon, chilli squid, lemon chicken skewers and chocolate and brioche butter pudding.

The dark and intimate Bar Bodega has a great selection of local wines, cognacs and whiskies. Soller's host of outdoor cafes are just around the corner.

If you're renting the entire hotel during the winter season you can choose between self catering or a fully catered option.

Save to favouritesPrintMailL'AvenidaThere's no doubt that the opening of L'Avenida has dramatically upped the hip quota of Soller, the picturesque town on Mallorca's northwest coast. Surrounded by spectacular mountains, with cute cafés and funky boutiques on your doorstep and a sandy beach a tram ride away, the setting is stunning. But what makes this hotel (also available as an exclusive rental during winter) really stand out is the visionary design and personal approach of owners Tania and Paul Slijper, who have added their own glamorous-chic styling to this Modernist mansion with great success. Etched glass doorways and an art nouveau reception desk sit next to contemporary-print wallpapers and urbane-chic Kartell lamps. A sweeping marble staircase leads to 12 elegantly modern [rooms:ES037:bedrooms] which feature original frescoes on high ceilings. Most have decadent chandeliers, Parisian fabrics, Bonnaccina chairs, luxurious Philippe Starck bathrooms and perfectly framed views of the Tramuntana peaks. To top it off, there's a courtyard pool with sail-covered gazebo, and mod-Med dining served alfresco in summer.
