Press Reviews

Conde Nast Traveller (UK), January 2011
"We wanted to stay somewhere special in the South of France. We decided to return to Le Tresor, a B&B in Sonnac-sur-l'Hers, which now has a house to rent. Le Petit Tresor, as it is called, is great for a holiday with children (or indeed without!), and the B&B offers evening meals at weekends and has an honesty bar... This place is truly idyllic and its owners are the perfect hosts."

The Observer, August 2010
"Step inside this classic three-storey "maison de maître" (master's house) in the quiet village square of Sonnac-sur-l'Hers, near Carcassonne, and you're in for a surprise: contemporary prints and fabrics, cool chandeliers and eye-catching art. There are four rooms (one suite, a twin and two doubles), all with high ceilings, original wooden floors and marble fireplaces. This is a place in which to put your feet up – in the sitting room-cum-games room with its full-size pool table, TV and collection of DVDs or perhaps in the garden with its hammocks."

The Times, January 2010
"Le Trésor, in Sonnac-sur-l’Hers, is a cool B&B hideaway in a sleepy village. Rooms are straight out of a fashion-mag shoot: white and cream with patterned wallpaper."

Harper's Bazaar, August 2008
"A boutique bed and breakfast with just five elegant rooms, Le Trésor offers the warmest welcome in the heart of the Aude. A vintage maison de maître on the edge of Sonnac-sur-l’Hers, the little hotel has beautiful terrace gardens to while away hammock-swaying afternoons, and home-from-home comforts in one of France’s most unspoilt wine regions.

Breakfast is particularly special, with fresh fruits, yoghurts, muesli and warm, fluffy croissants from the village boulangerie. At the weekend, Tilly the owner can prepare delightful dinners on request – on Sunday too. The honesty bar in the lounge is packed with local vintages, soft drinks and spirits. There’s plenty of books and magazines to leaf through, and a pool table on hand too."

  • “We loved our stay at Le Tresor and would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to south-west France. As well as being close to Carcassonne it was a great base for trips to Limoux, Perpignan, Collioures, Lake Montbel, a number of medieval towns and some beautiful Cathar castle ruins.
Room 3 was large, light and airy and overlooked a picturesque village square. Tilly and Will were perfect hosts - from leaving a box of tissues in our room (my partner was unwell when we visited), to lending us cutlery so that we could have a picnic lunch by Lake Montbel, nothing was too much trouble.
We ate at Le Tresor on our last evening and the food was absolutely delicious, made with local produce and beautifully presented. Breakfasts were tasty and great value too, so I'd highly recommend eating there during your stay.
Overall, Le Tresor is a great place to kick back and relax for a few days, with beautiful rooms, friendly hosts and plenty to do nearby - and great value.”

  • “Le trésor was an absolutely fabulous find. The little cottage was extremely comfortable and the possibility of having breakfast and dinner in the main house was an added extra. Will and Tilly were exceptional hosts - picking up bicycles for us so that they were waiting for us when we arrived and even organising an Easter egg hunt in their garden on Easter Sunday for the children. Tilly's cooking was absolutely outstanding and they both made us feel really at home. Excellent value for money too!
I highly recommend Le Trésor - a great place to stay.”

  • “We had a fantastic stay at Le Tresor. Will and Tilly could not have been nicer. It is a great place to base yourself from if you want to do some cycling. You can really clock up the miles cycling through some beautiful French countryside. Tilly´s cooking is outstanding and they have some great wines available too. I cannot praise this place highly enough!”

  • “Tilly and Will have created their own piece of heaven at Le Tresor. It's so much more than a conventional B&B, more like a small, elegant, boutique hotel with charming rooms of a simple white decor, very comfortable beds and tasteful pieces of furniture. Our room, 4, overlooked the delightful village square and the church bells ringing in the morning were part of the experience. Tilly and Will were attentive but unobtrusive hosts providing excellent breakfast and help with dinner reservations and advice on local walks. If you want a place to chill out and restore your energy, I cannot think of anywhere better or simpler, just an hour and a quarter from Toulouse Airport, in the foothills of the Pyrenees.”

  • “This review is for le petit Tresor - the self-catering cottage attached to the hotel. It's a very pretty cottage in a lovely setting with really nice touches like candle holders hanging from the branches of a fruit tree in the little garden, which was great to sit in and fresh bread brought to your door on request.
We ate at the hotel for some of the evenings and the food was delicious - all cooked to a very high standard by the hotel owner.”

  • “We stayed in the apartment, which was perfect for our family of 4. We also enjoyed the beautiful breakfasts rustled up by Tilly. It's a lovely place to stay in a peaceful village. We'll be back.”

Save to favouritesPrintMailLe TresorFrom the outside, Le Trésor has quintessentially southern French good looks; a triple-storied maison de maître with green shuttered windows looking out onto the sleepy village square of Sonnac-sur-l'Hers. But once you step inside Will and Tilly's occitan bolthole, languid Languedoc takes second seat to spare, urbane chic, with a decorative accent which is resolutely Noughties. The house's original features - an elegant bannistered staircase, pannelling and marble fireplaces - are still in place, but they have been pepped up with a racy cocktail of contemporary prints and fabrics, jazzy chandeliers, angular lamps and whirly art. But if the decorative attitude is edgy, that of your hosts is engagingly laid-back and you're encouraged to treat Le Trésor as you would your own home. Grab a glass of rouge from the honesty bar, slip on a CD and slump into one of the battered leather armchairs: this is boutique B&B where R&R comes guaranteed.
