Rooms

Le Trésor has 4 rooms - 1 suite, a twin and 2 doubles - ranged along the building's first floor. All are high ceilinged with an airy, expansive feel which provides a perfect canvas for Tilly's decorative sassiness. Jazzy headboards and bedwalls are hung with Designer's Guild or Osborne & Little fabrics and papers: a mix of contemporary prints and oil paintings enliven the high, all-white walls, and the eye-catching chandeliers, angular lamps and spots (of the Ikea kind) get the lighting side of things just right. There are antique trunks and old leather armchairs plundered from the local brocantes, whilst Le Trésor's many period features, like planked floors, cornicing and marble fireplaces, remind you that you're staying in a genuine maison bourgeoise.

Our leader-of-the-pack would be Room 1, a massive suite that has an enormous bedroom with a kingsize bed, sofa and TV-DVD (with Sky), a free-standing roll-top bathtub and a spare bedroom with an ensuite shower. In the remaining rooms, showers take the place of baths: Room 4 is the largest and has a kingsize bed, Room 3 can be made up as a twin or a large double and Room 2 is lovely but of reduced proportions - however, the high ceiling ensures that you won't feel in the least bit cramped.

Gadgetry comes in the form of CD and DVD players and flat-screen TVs - the one in Room 1 is hooked up to Le Trésor's Sky box. All of the rooms have really comfy mattresses and crisp White Company bed linen, and in your bath or shower room you're treated to a generous range of L'Occitane products: gel, shampoo, conditioner, cream and soap.

New in 2009 is a small cottage next door, which sleeps up to 4 and is rented by the week. It opens onto a flagstoned sitting room with kitchen corner, comfortable sofas, a wood burner and flat screen TV-DVD. French doors give onto open a private, south-facing garden with iron garden furniture and sun loungers.

Upstairs the main bedroom has a double bed, views to the hills, and an ensuite with dual sinks, bath and separate shower. The second twin bedroom is perfect for children. There is also a second small shower room and loo.

Save to favouritesPrintMailLe TresorFrom the outside, Le Trésor has quintessentially southern French good looks; a triple-storied maison de maître with green shuttered windows looking out onto the sleepy village square of Sonnac-sur-l'Hers. But once you step inside Will and Tilly's occitan bolthole, languid Languedoc takes second seat to spare, urbane chic, with a decorative accent which is resolutely Noughties. The house's original features - an elegant bannistered staircase, pannelling and marble fireplaces - are still in place, but they have been pepped up with a racy cocktail of contemporary prints and fabrics, jazzy chandeliers, angular lamps and whirly art. But if the decorative attitude is edgy, that of your hosts is engagingly laid-back and you're encouraged to treat Le Trésor as you would your own home. Grab a glass of rouge from the honesty bar, slip on a CD and slump into one of the battered leather armchairs: this is boutique B&B where R&R comes guaranteed.
