  • “Little Swallows: we stayed 3 nights at the end of August 2010.
Located at the top of Mount Pelion in Pinakates is this gem of a B&B. It clings to the edge of the mountain and affords spectacular views from the two main terraces and swimming pool.
Marie-Louisa and Edouard are the owners and hosts who have restored this house and for whom nothing is too much trouble. Everything is of the highest quality and the attention to detail is faultless, with fine bone china and silverware polished until it gleams.
The rooms are all large with with comfortable beds and excellent bathrooms (no air conditioning however) and properly equipped.
Breakfast is included in the rate and is a delight; with homemade preserves, compotes and bread being particularly noteworthy.
During our three days we felt very much at home with advice and information willingly privided by Edouard and we thoroughly enjoyed the bonus of having a pool.
The only comments I would make is that it would be helpful to have small side tables and reading lights beside the bed. Not recommended for the mobility impaired due to steep access and lots of stairs. Otherwise, ten out of ten and we look forward to visiting again.”

  • “Really liked the kindness of Edouard's welcome - one of the best places ever visited in term of quality of hosting. The only minor issue - the village is small but can be noisy at night.”

  • “This is an outstanding place to stay. A quite lovely house in one of Pelion's most beautiful and unspoilt villages. Ward and Wies, the Belgian owners are wonderful hosts. This cannot be recommended strongly enough.”

  • “Little Swallows is a delightful small and intimate family run B&B.
We were made to feel very welcome and were extremely well looked after. The setting is heavenly and we were very happy with the whole experience.”

Save to favouritesPrintMailLittle SwallowsThe mountainous peninsula of Pelion is blessedly off the tourist track. Dense with deciduous woodland, lush with apple orchard, olive grove and low shrub maquis, the area is a walker's dream. It is also home to 24 well-preserved villages, some of which are listed and undergoing gentrification. Pinakates, once truly remote, still unspoiled, is our favourite. Minutes from the cobbled market square is Ta Helidonakia: 'Little Swallows'. In 2002 it was a crumbling ruin; now, after a sympathetic restoration using traditional materials and methods, the imposing 19th-century mansion has opened its arms to guests. Each of the [r:GR058:bedrooms] is named after a Greek god and, we are told, has its own essentially Greek decoration. Flemish antique beds, imported by the Belgian owners, add character. In summer, breakfast is served on a terrace with a view - all the way to the enclosed seas of the Pagasitic Gulf. The hotel has two good seating areas, one with a wood-burner; the village has a clutch of tavernas.
