No 5 Maddox Street
Mayfair, London
Sleek, chic and discreet apartment-suites with 1-3 bedrooms: a luxurious sanctuary in central London
Attentive service and swanky surroundings? Check. Huge suites that
feel more like homes than hotel rooms? Check. And total tranquility
slap bang in the middle of London? Well yes, actually. It sounds
too much to ask for, but No. 5 Maddox Street is a surprisingly
peaceful urban retreat: bags of style, but none of the usual city
stresses. Step through its unassuming doorway, tucked away on a
side street between Soho and Mayfair, and the hustle and bustle
outside instantly melts away.
The atmosphere throughout is calm and refined, and there’s a
touch of Zen about the 1-, 2- and 3-bed suites, which
come with bamboo floors and orchid-filled lacquer vases. White
walls and clean lines create a feeling of light and space,
touchy-feely fabrics add cosiness, and Diptyque candles fill the
air with soothing aromas. If you want to cocoon yourself away you
can whip up meals in your swish kitchen or have food delivered to
your door; venture out and you’ll find restaurants, theatres
and bars all around. And afterwards you can come back to your own
city pad and sprawl in front of the fire - the crowds of Regent
Street are just round the corner, but you’d never know it.

Highs
- Hotel-style luxuries (room service, Frette linens, Artisan du Chocolat chocolates, Ren toiletries and plenty of in-room gadgetry) with the space and privacy of an apartment
- Perfectly placed for exploring central London, yet very quiet
- The light-filled suites are stylish and serene; some have lovely planted terraces for alfresco drinks and dining
- Service is top-notch - there’s a 24-hour concierge to pander to your every need, and smartly dressed staff appear out of nowhere to open doors
- Ideal for romantic city breaks à deux or girlie weekends (designer shops and the West End are a short stroll away)
Lows
- There’s no lift - staff will help with your luggage, but you could find yourself trudging up several flights of stairs to your suite
- The Executive Suites overlook the street and are noisier than the other suites, but their secondary glazing is fairly effective
- No twin beds, so friends who don't want to cosy up will need to shell out for a larger suite with a bedroom each
- There’s a hefty charge for WiFi
Every aspect of No 5 encourages visitors to believe that this is their very own central London home...
