Otter Creek Tents

Northern Goa, India

Press Reviews

Frommer's
"Located in the extreme north, between Asvem and Arambol, one of the most idyllic boutique properties in Goa is found at the end of a road and reached by crossing a bamboo footbridge through thick green groves. You won't find chic interiors or heavy themed designs here. In place of the obligatory pool you have the entire Arabian Sea to swim in. Coming here has a definite purpose - to enjoy the salt and froth that mixes with the air; to savor a beach that is so quiet, so pristine, so beautiful; to take lazing about to new dimensions. Bargain hunters should opt for one of the three tents, which overlook the freshwater creek; these are furnished with four-poster beds and have en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and personal sit-outs on a bamboo jetty. The food is terrific, even though it tends to take forever to get it, and the young staff, led by manager Vinod, is unobtrusive and ever helpful."

Travel + Leisure, March 2008
"In 2003, Mumbai-based fashion photographer Denzil Sequeira opened up his ancestral compound, Elsewhere, to paying guests. Four colonial beach houses and three candy-colored tents sit at the water's edge; for the most affordable option, book one of the latter, outfitted with a muslin-draped four-poster bed, a fully modern bathroom, private lanai, and your own wooden pier. The hotel is set in a forest of towering coconut trees on a hidden spit sandwiched between the Arabian Sea and a saltwater creek, near the former Portuguese port of Goa. Recent celebrity sightings have included Bollywood belle Preity Zinta. Ask manager Vinod Pednekar to arrange an afternoon dolphin cruise with local fishermen."

The Guardian, August 2007
"Luxury camping in north Goa. Otter Creek tents has a bamboo jetty over the river and luxury tents between the river and the sea, with double beds and ensuites. They bring breakfast to your little terrace and serve dinner under the stars. It's all very eco-friendly and peaceful - unlike much of north Goa."

  • “I would love to give feedback for Otter Creek as we had amazing stay and would never have found it if we had not been looking at i-escape.
Rooms were excellent. Always clean and tidy, simple but beautifully furnished with comfortable beds and the shower was hot when needed. Not a problem for us but there is no toilet door, only a curtain, so you do need to be close to the person you are in the tent with.
Food is also excellent. I had one of the best meals I have ever had there. You need to order the food a few hours before dinner, but that was to make sure the food was fresh. There is a good choice of breakfast: waffles, pancakes and eggs also all freshly cooked.
Excellent, friendly, informative staff and nothing is too much trouble.
Value was excellent for the time of year that we stayed as it was low season but not sure what the cost is to stay in season.
I hope this feedback is useful and ensures that you can recommend Otter Creek confidently, as we would to friends and family.”

  • “Whilst being very quiet and exclusive the tents are very basic for the price, which by Indian standards was very high. The tents really struggle to justify the price but it does have its merits. The food was fantastic and staff all lovely. You are really paying so much more because the place is so quiet; they could alternatively have 10 or 15 tents for a cheap price, though this really goes against the whole ethos.

If we were to return we would definitely stay in one of the houses [Captain's House, Priest's Houses] which we looked around and were fantastic.”

  • “We had a great stay at Otter Creek. The staff are very helpful and friendly in a beautiful setting.
It was surprisingly expensive but we understand what a good job they are doing at Otter Creek so did not mind paying extra.
We stayed in a tent but had a look at the rooms which were beautiful. The only reason we have awarded 3 out of 5 is that we were not aware from the photo's that the toilet and shower are in the tent with only a curtain across for privacy and the storage for clothes was a small cupboard with shelves and a stick hanging across the partition which you could hang clothes off (however, if you left clothes out at night they were generally damp in the morning).”
