Thirty Two

Press Reviews
The Guardian, December 2007
"Thirty Two stretches the term B&B to the very limits, but
that's because it's really a front for something else. "Guests like
to pretend they live here when they step out of the front door,"
says Jonathan Swindell, taking us past a Chinese hall table - on
which a metal candle-holder is burning something very nice - and up
a red-carpeted staircase to the sitting room. Wow. It's the width
of the building with two floor-to-ceiling windows looking out to
the glittering trees along The Promenade, but not just the Georgian
proportions that have momentarily stunned us into rare silence.
We've disappeared into a room set for contemporary design. It's
very modern with a hint of Asia and light touches of American
deco."
The Times, December 2007
"The appeal of Thirty Two is its individuality and a relaxing
atmosphere effected by a clever use of colour, pattern and
unexpected artefacts. The large first-floor living room, which has
three floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the flower-filled
Imperial Gardens, is a mix of contemporary Perspex side tables,
vintage sunburst mirrors, oriental artefacts and re-upholstered
chairs. “We bought a lot of second-hand furniture, especially
pairs of chairs, and upholstered them in a mix of fabrics,”
says Sellwood. One pair of chairs is covered in an unusual glossy
Geode vinyl fabric by Lelievre, while others are in a duck-egg blue
bouclé material."
Alastair Sawday's British Hotels & Inns
"A magnificent regency townhouse on Cheltenham's loveliest square.
Nothing here is simple and those who come find divine interiors on
a grand scale, a match for any design hotel. Climb up stairs clad
in smart red carpet and find a first-floor sitting room to beat
most others. French windows soar to the ceiling and open onto a
small balcony; when the jazz festival comes to town, cool tunes
float in. You get varnished wooden floors, candles everywhere, the
odd Thai deity carved in stone, beautifully upholstered armchairs.
Bedrooms are just as you'd expect: sublime to behold and kitted out
with all the best names: Cole & Son wallpaper, Whites of London
linen, natural travertine marble bathrooms and the same showers as
Buckingham Palace. Delicious breakfasts are eaten communally or
brought up to your room, and Cheltenham's restaurants lie outside
the door. Exceptional."

“A warm welcome, very well appointed room and great breakfast in a fabulous location - highly recommended.”
Graham, United Kingdom (29.04.10)“Decor was lovely and rooms were very clean and comfortable. The two Jonathans have great style. Jonathan was just the right amount of attentive. The lounge was so inviting, we actually used it. We felt so at home, that we kicked our shoes off and relaxed. Additionally, Jonathan had good local recommendations of where to eat too.”
Neil, (24.03.09)“Our host, one of the two Jonathons, was more than a host. Very quickly we felt as is we'd found a friend. The hotel soon became an extension of our home so comfortable were both our room and the lounge. Indeed when we checked out, I felt as is I was leaving home. We'll definitely stay again and could not recommend it more.”
