Casa de Carmona
Carmona, Southern Spain
Rooms
As you would expect from a 'casa palacio', every bedroom is
different. Some of the deluxe ones have wonderful four-posters, or
cosy twin beds tucked under the eaves of a duplex flat. A few in
the 'new' (18th-century) wing have partial views over the town and
plains beyond, though most face the inner courts. Only a couple of
smaller standard rooms let the side down.
But throughout you will find the same aristocratic elegance, with
carefully chosen pastel hues (predominantly pale blues and greens)
and a generous range of antique furniture, including cabinet desks,
ornate mirrors, brass lamps, and a tall hatbox. A Sotheby's
brochure on the coffee table makes sure you get the message. It's
verging on the fusty, but a swathe of modern facilities keeps it
real: hi-fi, air-conditioning, video, ambient lighting. A concealed
mirrored door leads to an impressive bathroom, with elaborate brass
taps and wide shower heads.
Our favourite rooms are #5, a beamed duplex with romantic
double-bed, and #23, with a lovely rooftop view.
