But what Robinsons does have is Paul Humphreys who mans the helm of this little gem and keeps it truly shipshape. From cooking a mean breakfast to telling you everything you need to know about hip and happening Melbourne, he is the host with the most. The six [r:AU021:rooms] here are homely, immaculate and totally unpretentious. Although only one is ensuite, all have their own bathroom. As its name implies, Robinsons is very central (you're on the edge of the CBD) yet it feels quite rustic: red-brick walls, wooden floors, antique-chic decor. Breakfast is taken at a large country-style dining table next to the original bread ovens (it was Melbourne's first commercial bakery). Across the hall, a comfy lounge offers a restful and sociable environment. This guesthouse will suit those who are tired of large, impersonal hotels - it's like an enchanting grown-up hostel for the more mature independent traveller.
