Shanti Home
New Delhi, India
Activities
Delhi often marks the beginning and / or end of a trip to India, which may influence how much sightseeing you wish to do. Shanti Home produces an in-house magazine with details of local sights and shops, and the travel desk can help arrange tours within Delhi.
- Sightseeing: Connaught Place (the financial, commercial
and business district) is less than 30 minutes away by metro and is
a good place to begin exploring the city
- Among Delhi's best-known sites are the Mughal Red Fort
(Lal Qila), constructed between 1638 and 1648, and Jama
Masjid, India's largest mosque. Both these sights can be found
in Old Delhi
- Museums: Delhi has plenty of museums on offer, with some
of the better ones being the National Museum and National Gallery
of Modern Art. We recommend the Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum,
which offers a fascinating insight into the often tragic life of
the Gandhi family. The National Museum has an extensive collection
with highlights including excavations from Indus Valley
civilisation sites, Central Asian antiquities and Tibetan
manuscripts
- Shopping: Delhi offers every kind of shopping
experience, from the colourful and chaotic bazaars of Chandni Chowk
to the Western-style shopping malls of Select Citywalk. Khan Market
is worth visiting for its homewares, jewellery and clothes stores,
while the State Emporiums on and around Janpath are good for
picking up everything from woodcarvings, brasswork, and paintings
to textiles and furniture
- At the hotel: take a yoga or cooking lesson, or recover from your travels with a body and head massage, followed by a steam in the hotel's Patra spa
