The Windermere Hotel

Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Press Reviews

Frommer's
"Conveniently located one road back from King's Beach, a stone's throw from McArthur Pools, this is the first guesthouse in P.E. to embrace the modern boutique-hotel aesthetic, with customized fittings and furniture throughout, much of it designed by Haldane Martin, local Elle Decor Designer of the Year. Luxury rooms are huge enough to be termed suites, and furnished with all the modcons needed for a comfortable stay. Book one of the upstairs rooms for views, particularly room no. 3, which has sea vistas from its balcony. Breakfast is served in the dining room, on the deck, or in your room, and a complimentary shuttle service is on hand to take you to the Boardwalk complex, with its many restaurant choices (though it's worth noting that Caroline, the manageress, while well-meaning, is unable to make informed restaurant recommendations; something you'd expect at this price)."

  • “Secure garage available for our car which was great. The hotel was lovely.”

  • “Seems a bit worn and not the nicest location. Says there is wifi throughout the hotel - couldn't get it in our room - had to sit outside on the step. Bathroom didn't feel that clean / was a bit out dated. Considering the price, we stayed at lot nicer places in SA for cheaper.”

Save to favouritesPrintMailThe Windermere HotelIf you fancy doing some 'Big 5' game-viewing, but are put off by the thought of staying in a remote lodge on a dusty plain with little to do in the evening, then you’ll be pleased to discover this urban-chic hotel in Port Elizabeth. Staying at The Windermere, a stone’s throw from the sandy expanse of Port Elizabeth’s Humewood Beach, you can spend a half-day tracking elephants and other big mammals through the Addo National Park (1 hour’s drive away), then return in the afternoon for some swimming, surfing or even diving. Sunset calls for a cocktail, perhaps a spot of shopping or street music, followed by a fish braai (BBQ) at one of the city’s many seafront restaurants. The hotel has just 9, exceptionally spacious, guest rooms plus there’s an airy guest lounge, a veranda and a lush garden with a small swimming pool - perfect for cooling off after a dusty day on safari. With predominately neutral décor, the overall effect is that of a calming retreat from the urban jungle beyond the hotel walls.
