Thirty Two

Cheltenham, UK

Activities

  • Cheltenham is well known for its festivals, in particular the annual jazz and literary events (held in April/May and October respectively). Recent Literary Festivals have included talks by Fay Weldon, Bruce Parry, Richard Attenborough, Raymond Blanc and Toni Morrison, while Eartha Kitt, Van Morrison and Maceo Parker have appeared during the Jazz Festival

  • Similarly renowned is Cheltenham Racecourse, which hosts its annual festival and the famous Gold Cup every March, as well as regular races throughout the year. Dress up smart and enjoy a flutter

  • Wander around the city, admiring the beautiful Regency architecture. This is a very pretty place, particularly at Christmas when the lights illuminate the pretty buildings in town and carols are piped into the street

  • Indulge in some retail therapy. Cheltenham's Promenade houses all the top-end high-street names (Russell & Bromley, LK Bennett, Serafina, The White Company), and nearby Montpellier has lovely independent boutiques

  • The Cotswolds are right on your doorstep. Head out into the countryside and walk through idyllic villages with honey-coloured buildings and great swathes of green and pleasant land

  • The Jonathans can recommend spas nearby if you feel in need of some pampering

  • Back at Thirty Two, read a book in the guest lounge, or borrow a DVD to watch in your room

Save to favouritesPrintMailThirty TwoThis is boutique at its very, very best: just 4 rooms; ultra stylish décor and warm, welcoming owners. Set in a gorgeous square of identical Regency townhouses, Thirty Two lies in one of Cheltenham's ritziest areas. Within walking distance of Montpellier's fab shops and restaurants, within throwing distance of a pretty garden square. And as soon as you trot up the snow-white front steps, you know you've arrived somewhere special. Owners Jonathan and Jonathan are interior designers - the bedrooms were almost a second thought. But it's not like any B&B we've come across before. There's an immaculate guest lounge where everything is precisely, symmetrically laid out in twos: Chinese urns, glass lamps, perspex tables, button-back leather chairs... it's a Noah's Ark of design. Scented candles waft throughout and the [r:UK064:bedrooms] are exquisite: Cole & Son wallpaper, antique furniture, goose-down duvets and, in The Suite, a giant copper bathtub. We're always wary of the word 'luxurious' but it applies here in spades.
