Press Reviews
Conde Nast Traveller (UK), May 2009
"Trinity is a heritage hotel with a contemporary edge, the first of
its kind in a town with the largest concentration of heritage
hotels in India... The building housed the Dutch East India
Company's offices for more than a century. Trinity, which opened in
2005, occupies the upper floor, framed by a massive mahogany tree,
while the ground floor is given over to a cool crafts and clothes
shop, Cinnamon, owned by Poddar. There are just three bedrooms at
present... named Red, Yellow and Blue, and each has a wall painted
in its eponymous primary colour. They all have open-air bathrooms,
terraces and low teak beds."
The Telegraph, April 2008
"A lofty architect designed villa, overlooking a cricket green;
split-level, high-ceilinged modern rooms are innovatively arranged
to maximise light and space. Art is very much a feature, with a
photographic and pop-art leaning. Colourful fabrics, layout and
walnut wood make the rooms feel bright, warm and homely, despite
the modern look... Each room is a variation on a theme - clever use
of shape and split levels, glass and light everywhere drawing the
eye outwards to enclosed verandahs, mezzanine-level beds, and
private outdoor showers: it all feels like an artistic tableau...
the sense of light, space and dimension are so restful. But somehow
you still know you're in India."
The Times, March 2007
"Imaginative oil paintings, quirky artefacts, and Modernist/Art
Deco architecture - sounds more South Beach art gallery than South
India guesthouse. This designer B&B is owned by the German and
Spanish couple behind the Malabar House, the original
East-meets-West boutique bolt-hole near by. Whitewashed throughout,
with a Miami vibe unique in Cochin, if not India.
There’s a small plunge pool in the landscaped ground-level
deck, but services such as spa treatments, and lunch and dinner at
an acclaimed Mediterranean restaurant come courtesy of the Malabar,
a quick stroll across the Parade ground.
The X-factor? Open-air en suites, complete with wooden Japanese
sandals to negotiate the sole-pricking stones, and a wall in a bold
primary colour that reflects the room name. While they’re all
high on “wow” effect, the Red suite’s
yard-cum-shower garden is a little pricier, and indeed the most
impressive."

“Tasteful and well done rooms with excellent professional and thoughtful staff. I was slightly disappointed the pool at Trinity has been decomissioned but the pool at the sister hotel Malabar House is a tiny stroll away. Well recommended.”
