Veneto Suites
Rethymno, Crete
A 600-year old residence, converted into 10 studios, in the Venetian quarter of Rethymno, run by delightful people
If you’re looking for one spot from which to explore the best
of central and western Crete, the historic seaside town of Rethymno
is a strong candidate. Situated halfway between Heraklion, the
bustling city near Minoan Knossos, and Chania, the popular gateway
to the White Mountains, it has easy access to both, and a quiet
charm all of its own. Elegant Venetian townhouses, narrow cobbled
alleys, a massive fortress and colourful little fishing port have
all been spruced up recently with EU money, yet remain off the
beaten track.
The same is true of the Veneto Suites, a 15th-century house once
occupied by Venetian fortress guards, now occupied by the friendly
Prokopakis family and their guests. With its acclaimed Cretan
cuisine, central location and variety of rooms and
apartments, this place will delight romantic couples, stylish
travellers and discerning families alike. And it’s always
nice to see where that EU money is going…
