Villa Creta

Crete, Greece

Press Reviews

The Times, April 2010
"High in the hills above Heraklion is Villa Creta, which comprises two self-catering villas in the grounds of a working organic farm. The owners will serve up Cretan homecooking on request or you can buy fresh farm produce to do it yourself. It's a 15-minute drive to the bars and beaches of Heraklion. The first villa sleeps nine people, the second one sleeps five."

The Sunday Times, January 2010
"Here are three stone villas in the hills above town (great views): two are for hire, the other belongs to the couple who own and work this organic farm, with its fruit orchards, ducks, geese and boars. It has a pool, stables next door and, bizarrely, a miniature train to shuttle you around. It's self-catering, but good dinners are available, with most produce coming from the estate."

  • “The kitchen could be a little better equipped (no sieve, no teapot, no proper chopping board, another sharp knife, for example). However, the hosts were absolutely charming and very helpful and obliging. Our linen was changed during our five day stay which was unexpected and very nice indeed.”

  • “We traveled with two children (5 month,2.5years) and stayed in Vlla Stella. The owners are very nice and helpful, the welcome dinner was delicious and we got few very good recommendations for restaurants.
The view is so beautiful that you don't have to leave the villa. It is all simple but with good taste. The children have a wide space to hang out and the train is very nice attraction.
The only thing that was dificult for us is to find our ways from and to the villa but it's because of the bad signs and roads all over Creta.”
    yael, Israel (26.09.10)

  • “We loved the location, and the host Alex was delightful and very interesting. Hire a robust car [4x4 if possible] as there is a lot to do see in Crete well off the beaten track.”
    Andrew, United Kingdom (04.09.10)

  • “Villa Creta was a bit of a disappointment. Alex the host was lovely and really helpful and the villa and pool themselves were nice but overall the place lacked charm for me. The food provided was good but overpriced at 20 Euros per head for a main dish. I thought from your description that the location would be really beautiful but I'd agree with a previous guest who said it was a rather strange Iraklion hinterland. Not so much a rustic rural retreat as industrial farming landscape complete with polytunnels and no attractive villages or lovely tavernas within easy striking distance at all.”

Save to favouritesPrintMailVilla CretaWhat do you get if you cross a Cretan working farm with a luxury villa? Answer: delicious organic food, animals to feed and air-conditioned bedrooms to retreat to at night. This unique combination is what makes Villa Creta so appealing. Perched in the hills above Heraklion, its 3 stone villas are set amidst gnarled olive trees and aromatic gardens. Two are for hire (Despoina sleeps 5, Stella sleeps 9), and the third is the family home and communal guest space. Inside they're homely and comfortably furnished, but it’s the views that blow you away. Poolside terraces and wraparound balconies overlook the rolling plains around Knossos and the rocky foothills of Mt. Ida - a breathtaking setting for al fresco [i!http://www.i-escape.com/hotel.php?section=eating&hotel_key=GR036!dinners]. The best thing about these dinners is you don't have to cook them yourself. Owners Miltos and Stella serve up delicious Cretan home cooking on request (the first meal comes free, to whet your appetite), or they'll fill your kitchen with fresh farm produce if you prefer. They have created a wonderfully peaceful environment and will do everything to help you enjoy it.
