Villa de L'O
Essaouira, Morocco
Eating
Breakfast is served by lovely, smiley staff on the
wicker-furnished roof terrace or in the intimate dining room or the
inner courtyard that opens to the sky. There are bowls of freshly
chopped fruit, fresh orange juice, baskets of croissants, pains
au chocolat and toast, bowls of yoghurt and plates of honey,
jam and fig preserves; omelettes too, if that's what you fancy.
Coffee is served in individual thermoses (strong, Italian and very
good), or you can put in an order for black or mint tea.
As far as eating out is concerned, you'll get the best
tables in town if Celine or Caroline does the booking. We recommend
the small new 'M'Riste Jouhar' (see 'Local Info' page) for its
superb Moroccan food and simple surroundings, the terrace of the
'Chalet de la Plage', where you can tuck into fresh sea urchins
whilst being serenaded by crashing surf, or 'L'Elizir' which
combines funky decoration with top notch food. Or step out of the
Villa's front door and straight into 'Dar Lussia' which is making
waves due to the excellence of both its Moroccan and French
cuisine: it also has a high terrace which grabs a slice of that
amazing Atlantic vista. If nothing else, an impromptu lunch at one
of the fish stalls on the harbourside is a must, as long as you
choose your stall with care; a few coins will buy you a plate of
seafood delivered by the boats that day, simply barbecued and eaten
at communal tables.
