Villa des Orangers
Marrakech, Morocco
Eating
Choose your preferred breakfast menu and time, and it
arrives on the dot, with the toast still hot – a rarity in
Morocco. There are 3 spreads and – rarer still – none
of them is the ubiquitous apricot gunge (it was fig, strawberry or
fragrant honey on the last visit). Order tea and a choice of four
– in muslin bags, if you please – comes in an aromatic
thuya-root box. Pancakes, eggs, yoghurt, cheese, muesli and fresh
newspapers are also on offer.
All of which bodes well for dinnertime, when, if you feel
like eating in and have booked it, you can take a seat by the
fireside in one of the salons and have tangy tagines or spice-laden
couscous brought to your petal-strewn, carved-cedar tabletop.
Finish off with fresh oranges (appropriately enough) in cinnamon.
And remember that tomorrow’s light lunch comes
courtesy of the house.
