Villa des Orangers

Marrakech, Morocco

Rooms

Bright yellow lampshades and orange and red bedcovers take up the citrus theme in the bedrooms, making them warm and welcoming. In case you are in any doubt, a bowl of oranges is placed purposefully on the cedarwood table. Judiciously hidden in ornate wooden chests, meanwhile, are the TV and minibar.

All bedrooms open onto the inner courtyards. Even the standard Deluxe Rooms are generously sized and the thick kilims and courtesy babouches make padding around them a pleasure. The beds are extremely comfortable and are laid with the softest 'percale' linen. The Suites are larger still, with an open-plan sitting area. Some of the Duplex Suites have a downstairs sitting room with sofa bed, and upstairs loft-bedroom, ideal for families.

Some rooms and suites have a private terrace, though there is a communal rooftop terrace and a new heated pool in the garden courtyard.

All have wonderful bathrooms with a bath and separate shower. Some bathrooms even boast a divan on which you can drape yourself langorously while your partner bathes.

The Luxury Suites (aka the Garden Suites), with balconies overlooking the garden and pool, are large (over 100 m2 with bedroom, sitting room, dressing room, entrance hall and bathroom), luxurious and hi-tech (plasma screen TVs, CD-player, DVD-player, dedicated internet connection, etc).

Alternatively you can take the whole of one riad building (2 suites) with its own private court and entrance.

Save to favouritesPrintMailVilla des OrangersAs with most Marrakech hotels, the entrance to the 5-star Villa des Orangers is unassuming, to say the least. Who would guess that this inconspicuous corridor off a road swarming with carts, bicycles and repair stalls would lead to a haven of peace and luxurious style. But it does, and that is what makes Marrakech special. The 'city of two souls' combines earthy simplicity with a generous dose of sensual delights, and the Villa has more than its fair share of the latter. Two inner courts whose plumped up sofas and softly gurgling water fountains call, siren-like, for a post-shopping collapse. Lattices of such delicately wrought plasterwork that in a low blood sugar moment one fancies they are made of icing. A sensuous wooden egg which makes other key fobs seem vulgar. Algae soap to make your skin tingle, and fluffy bathrobes to soothe it afterwards. Soft leather slippers which actually fit. It seems they've thought of everything.
