Villa Kulini

Near San Raphael, Ibiza

Warmly stylish villa up in the hills, with panoramic views, personalised service and two pools (sleeps 6-9)

High on a hill with stunning panoramic views, this 200-year-old finca was once the property of the Bee Gees, along with the house next door (discreetly out of sight)... Stayin' Alive was written here. Now it's an exquisitely restored villa ideal for an extended family or a group of friends; there are 2 entrances, one upstairs and one down, each floor has its own living areas indoor and out, and the kitchen is shared.

Alberto and Yvonne Cortes' design trademarks are evident: white and off-white colour schemes offset by ceramics and art, in this villa a striking mix of modern, Mediterranean and Balinese. Floors are of matt marble, pebbles or polished concrete, exterior doors are of metal or glass, interior ones are carved Moroccan.

The outside spaces are nice and green and summer life revolves around the lovely curved pool, with its 2 large palms and furnished terrace leading to several more. There's an infinity pool too. Lush, long (16m) and perfect for laps, it's flanked by decking and some delightfully funky double loungers.

Highs

  • Superb styling and all mod cons, from plasma TVs to rain-head showers
  • Proximity to beaches - and to Santa Gertrudis with its chic restaurants and bars (many of which open all year round)
  • Alberto and Yvonne live close by so they’re on-hand to help, and offer a truly personalised service
  • Ideal for families: the neighbourhood is safe and quiet, and the sea is very calm
  • Alberto also runs a shop - Ksar - where you can buy the handmade furniture that beautifies the villas

Lows

  • Bookings are Sunday-Sunday only (May-October), with a 2-week minimum stay (July and August)
  • The tap water is brackish; brush your teeth and make tea with mineral water
