Villa Meneghello

Hvar Island, Croatia

Press Reviews

The Observer, June 2009
"The largest of the Pakleni Islands, which lie a short boat-taxi ride from the island of Hvar, Sveti Klement boasts sandy coves and pine-backed beaches and the picturesque hamlet of Palmizana where a clutch of elegant villas lie surrounded by pine forest. The Meneghello family have lived on Sveti Klement since the 19th century, creating a lushly beautiful botanic garden along with villas, bungalows and a renowned restaurant."

The Guardian, February 2009
"Glitzy Hvar is Croatia's celebrity magnet. It's here that the moneyed dock their mega yachts, stepping ashore to strut the town's pale marble promenade. But 10 minutes away courtesy of a private speedboat, lies the island paradise of Palmizana and Pansion Meneghello whose bungalows and two restaurants are tucked around 200m of sandy beach. A botanical haven, the thick Mediterranean pines, palms and fragrant eucalyptus that cover the island were planted a century ago by Eugenio Manghello, the grandfather of the current owners."

The Independent, July 2008
"The Meneghello family has run its Palmizana resort on the island of Sveti Klement, near Hvar, for more than a century. Now they have opened this luxury villa on the island of Hvar itself. Rent one of a pair of three-bedroom apartments, or get a larger group together and splurge on the whole villa. It is set in a lush, private garden complete with swimming pool, hammocks and everything else you need for a tranquil holiday."

Save to favouritesPrintMailVilla MeneghelloThe Meneghello family have built a great reputation for creating bohemian-style villas set amidst lush botanical gardens. Their artistic retreat on the islet of [h:CR002:Palmizana] is one of Croatia's most idyllic island hideaways, and in 2007 they purchased this 2-storey villa overlooking the turquoise sea on the edge of Hvar Town to expand their collection. Available as 2 separate 3-bedroom apartments or a large villa, it's a haven for friends or families who want to escape the mainland's crowds. Set in a rocky hillside garden of towering pines and exotic blooms, it feels very private, yet it's only a 15-minute walk into Hvar Town for sailing or glitzy evenings out. The décor is at once eclectic and vibrant, with bright colours and big bold oil paintings filling the walls. The [i!http://www.i-escape.com/hotel.php?section=rooms&hotel_key=CR007#ground!upper apartment] has a harlequin theme of primary colours, whilst the [r:CR007:ground floor] is decked out in a more subdued, black-and-white style. The bedrooms are funky, the living areas light and spacious, and there's an outdoor kitchen for evening BBQs, plus a pool. But for us what makes this villa so special is Dagmar Meneghello’s private art collection. The entire complex is something of a live-in gallery, a homage to modern Croatian art. Dagmar has been patronising contemporary painters and sculptors since the 1960s, and has some 150 pieces on display here. She also has an amazing flair for combining Hvar’s traditional stone and driftwood sculptures with quirky modern design pieces. Very inspiring.
