"A boutique villa in Tuscany, this hotel is the perfect marriage of contemporary chic and historic charm. With heart-stopping views over the Tuscan hills, an bright and spacious rooms decorated with precision and attention to detail, Villa Sassolini is a tranquil hideaway in the heart of Chiantishire.

The Marrakech room has fantastic views over the pool. The A Caccia suite has its own balcony and is decorated with hunting prints and has views of the wild hills of Chianti."

  • “The view from the villa was amazing and everything from the service to the food was absolutely perfect! It's a bit out of the way in a small town - but definitely worth the drive because it is a beautiful, relaxing and truly magical place!”

  • “2nd time to Sassolini. As wonderful as I remember. Secluded, peaceful and stylish. Thank you Andrea, George and Romeo.”

  • “Beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting and convenient location to explore Florence, Siena, and other gorgeous towns and villages. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and helpful. We have a few criticisms which are minor niggles really...the pool was arctic cold so we couldn't use it (we didn't see anyone else brave a dip either), the salads for lunch were expensive (12 euros) and some dishes at dinner were expensive too (e.g. 16 euros for spaghetti carbonara). They could perhaps have been a little more open about the costs of lunch, coffee, water etc as there was no menu displaying prices. Also in our room there was only one armchair in the living room which wasn't ideal for 2 people. Niggles aside we very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Sassolini and would highly recommend it to our friends wanting a stylish hotel in the heart of picture postcard Tuscany.”

  • “Beautiful villa with very good service. The menu did not change from night to night, but when I asked if it was possible to have fish on the next evening, they arranged this for me. It was quite remote, so it was difficult to eat anywhere other than the hotel restaurant.”

  • “A special place with overall stunning décor. However, there was no storage space in cupboards for laying down items. The room was very dark room and very dark in the wardrobe, so couldn’t see our clothes hanging. Great staff, unusual but great…. will definitely recommend and possibly go back sometime in the future.

We hired a Fiat 500 from Rome and found it most useful on the narrow roads leading up to Villa Sassolini. Eat in every night if you can, the food is simple but delicious.”

  • “The hotel is very nicely done and very stylish. The team are very helpful particularly the manager Andrea and George, with nothing too much trouble. It is in a very picturesque setting and the mountain road is worth a drive! The village of Moncioni is very sleepy and there aren't any bars or restaurants to walk to, but the food and drinks are excellent at the hotel. The hotel is conveniently located to explore the Chianti region and is easily accessible by the A1 making it a good location overall.

My only criticisms would be that I found the hotel quite dark inside and also our bed was very hard and so we didn't sleep very well. Otherwise this was a lovely hotel to stay at and was a lovely end our trip to Tuscany.”

Save to favouritesPrintMailVilla SassoliniWhen we arrived in the peaceful hamlet of Moncioni, we wondered where a design hotel could be. But hidden behind plain stone walls is a very stylish find. For centuries a holiday home of Florentine nobility, Villa Sassolini has been impeccably restored by acclaimed designer Massimo Tani, known for his novel approach to everyday objects. Villa Sassolini, however, is anything but everyday. Smart, contemporary furnishings, softened with the occasional period piece and cool muted colours, have created an atmosphere of clean, understated luxury. It's a refreshing change from the many over-antiquified Tuscan villas around. You're in the heart of Tuscany, up high and the surroundings are inspiring, with breathtaking views of the Monti del Chianti and the valley below. Dine in the intimate restaurant with its fantastic menu or grab your Guccis and soak up some rays next to the good-looking pool. You'll understand why the lucky nobility kept it to themselves for so long.
