VillaLara

Llandudno, Cape Town, South Africa

Stunning modern Cape Cod-style villa with a heated pool and sensational ocean views. Super tranquil, high-tech luxury (sleeps up to 8 + 2 children)

Llandudno is one of Cape Town's most desirable residential enclaves; just 20 minutes' drive from the city centre, it has tranquility and style in abundance. Mountains behind and beautiful white sand beaches in front mean expensive villas are a plenty, but VillaLara with its 3 double bedrooms and guest annexe has the edge for sheer "Wow". For starters it's the last house on this stretch, so there's nothing between you and the rugged coastline - cue, stunning views.

Inside the award-winning photographer Chris Simpson has woven together threads of space, style and Africa. Expect potted orchids, scented frangipani and occasional artefacts from his travels; his striking photos lend a private gallery feel. The vast living room - double-aspect, double-height - lets you walk in one side, then straight out the other to the heated pool. It's a comfortable, high-tech heaven. State-of-the-art sound, light and vision systems are always at your fingertips. The kitchen is massive and you can opt for the private chef, too. There's also Sandy, the charming Malawian villa assistant, who's on-hand 24 hours a day. Perfect.

Highs

  • Excellent location with spectacular uninterrupted ocean views and easy access to 2 unspoilt beaches
  • Space, space, space: huge living room and kitchen, several dining areas and a large deck with a heated pool
  • Stylish contemporary décor and ultra high-tech mod cons - home cinema, music, lighting, security... you name it
  • Villa concierge and a full-time assistant, plus a private chef on request
  • A good base for exploring Cape Town and the Winelands

Lows

  • This is a purely residential district. You will have to drive to reach any shops or restaurants, but Hout Bay is only 5 minutes away
  • Not cheap, but it's an exceptional home in an exceptional location
  • Not one for technophobes, but the villa assistant is on speed-dial if you need any help

Villa Lara's deck is huge, with a nine-metre-long swimming pool occupying centre stage...
