The capital city of Karnataka is located on the Deccan Plateau in the south-eastern part of the state. It's famous for its festivals and its world-renowned health sanctuaries. Soukya is one of the best Ayurvedic and holistic centres in Asia; along similar lines but less intensive is Shreyas.
Bustling Bangalore is also a good option for therapy of the retail kind. Try the traditional neighbourhoods of Malleswaram and Basavanagudi for colourful street markets, head to the Commercial Street bazaar for clothes and souvenirs, and wander around atmospheric Russell Market in the city centre for a dose of local flavour. For high-end shopping, browse the designer boutiques of Vitall Mallya Road and UB City Mall.
