Awesome Argentina is a wonderful destination for young adults and tweens – culturally fascinating, with diverse landscapes that range from Andean peaks to thick jungle. It has a huge array of exciting activities to try out, too – here are 10 which are sure to give teenagers terrific bragging rights on their return home….

Buenos Aires

  • Take sports-mad teens on a tour of the Boca Juniors football stadium, just south of San Telmo, then wander the area’s vibrant streets, full of performers and tango dancers
  • Visit Eva Peron’s grave in the fabulously OTT Recoleta Cemetery, then head to the Casa Rosada in Plaza de Mayo to imagine the fervent crowds (make sure you watch the movie Evita in preparation!) and note the political graffiti
  • Marvel at the flamboyant interiors of Faena Hotel, which encompass unicorns, chandeliers and gold gilding galore. The in-house Experience Managers can book cool insider tours and great restaurants

The North West

  • Base yourselves just outside Salta at delightful Finca Valentina, head into town to see real-life mummies at the Museum of High Mountain Archaeology in Salta, which contains the preserved remains of Inca children
  • Take a monumental road trip through the UNESCO-listed gorges of Quebrada da Humahuaca and the Valles Calchaquíes, where you can see rainbow-hued mountains, gaze at giant cacti and spot condors soaring overhead
  • Hop in a 4×4 and head up to La Puna, a high-altitude desert plateau complete with llamas, glittering salt flats and volcanic peaks

The Lake District

  • Kayak on immense Lago Gutiérrez, or try white-water rafting down Río Manos
  • Take a boat trip to the fairy-tale woodland of Bosque Los Arrayanes – a forest of skinny intertwined trees with unusual cinnamon-coloured bark
  • Stay at waterfront country house Estancia Peuma Hue and ride horses under the care of the resident horse whisperer

The North East

  • Get soaked on an exhilarating boat trip into the spray of the Iguazú Falls, one of the biggest waterfall systems in the world. There are trails and walkways all along the banks, too
  • Stay at nearby Don Puerto Bemberg Lodge and embark on a thrilling speedboat ride along the Paraná river, with stops to swim under waterfalls and discover swirling whirlpools
