Iceland’s clean and green capital is a year-round destination, and this trio of apartments make a great base in every season. The interiors are beautifully designed but delightfully liveable, with well-equipped kitchens, very comfy beds, and toasty underfloor heating for the colder months.

The apartments sleep 2-4, so there’s something to suit couples, friends and families. They’re all within an easy stroll of the city’s sights: we loved the harbour (with whale-watching and puffin-spotting boat trips), the museums, and the fantastic kids’ playground made from flotsam and jetsam.

Rooms: You can choose between the 2-bedroom house, which has a handy laundry room (good for families), ground-floor Apartment 1, which has 2 wood-panelled bedrooms, and bijou 1-bedroom Apartment 2 (perfect for a couple). All three are impeccably designed and supremely comfortable; you won’t want to leave! There’s geothermal-powered underfloor heating to keep things toasty in winter, as well as blissful bedding and cosy armchairs. The bathrooms are decorated in cool Italian tiles and have walk-in power showers. If you prefer to soak in a tub, opt for Apartment 1.

Food: There’s everything you’ll need for self-catering (including proper coffee makers). Apartment 1 has a separate cornflower-blue kitchen (the dining table for 4 is in the lounge), whilst the house’s kitchen wraps along the edge of the open-plan living/dining space, next to a table seating 6. The kitchenette in Apartment 2 is in the living room, where there’s also a cosy table for 2. Shops for supplies are nearby; if you’d rather let someone else do the cooking, there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, too – owners Gunnar and Halla Bara can recommend their favourites.

Author’s tip: The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most famous attractions and, although touristy, it’s worth visiting to loll in the perfectly heated opaque blue water. It’s best sampled on your way back to the airport as an idyllic end to your time in this amazing country.

Customer review: “Our party stayed in the one and two bedroom apartments for our week in Iceland. Beautifully decorated with everything you need and more. The apartments have spacious rooms and the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. The owners even had some provisions in for us, which was much appreciated as we arrived quite late at night and didn’t have to go shopping till the morning. The shops and restaurants are minutes away yet the street is lovely and quiet. I cannot fault these apartments, just what you need to relax after a day exploring Iceland. Would definitely recommend. Halla and Gunnar thank you so much for your hospitality.”
